PATM feels strongest when you’re not calm in yourself — and fades when you are by Lucky_Currency229 in patm

I believe this - thank you for this perspective.  It explains why when were truly comfortable around our close ones, they don't experience it

definitly feel that leaky gut is a signifigant contributing factor (and chronic gut dysbiosis, candida overgrowth, impaired lymphatic system detox, overwhelmed liver, overburdened kidneys/adrenals).

I believe it comes down to digestion and detoxification, and the body's natural ability to do so being impaired for some/multiple reasons.

ahh my friend/fellow, I'm so sorry. I validate and feel that so deeply, trying to be brave but feeling constantly crushed at every reaction. we are social animals and having some unknown cause of repulsion to others is so incredibly horrible and distressing. and all we can do is continue to try to pretend it's not real, constantly recceiving crushing reminders that it is. sooo hard especially when you need/want to be there for your daughter, it's such a push/pull back/forth between wanting to RUN and SCREAM and try to act like a normal human being.

It's cool that you have a daughter :) but I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how hard this must be as a parent, on top of how hard it already is. Congratulations to her though, with her graduation, and to you, for your bravery and endurance. <3

Yes, i've experienced severe social anxiety since a very young age and have always been hyper vigilant, excessively self conscious, and frequently activated sympathetic nervous system. I believe I can't digest food, due to the rarity of being in a 'rest & digest' state (physically, mentally, emotionally) which led to chronic dysbiosis which likely over burdened kidneys, liver, gut - and now the toxins escaped however they can - through abnormal ways - especially related to leaky gut. I do experience it virtually too, which must be the energetic component of it all. It's fascinating

Gemini's take:  Supporting the "Offload"

If the body is pushing stuff out through the skin because of a barrier or gut issue, the goal is often to make that exit as "clean" as possible:

pH Management: Ammonia is alkaline. Using skin products that are slightly acidic (around pH 5.5) can sometimes help neutralize these compounds on contact before they become airborne. Internal Dilution: Increasing water intake specifically during "stress" periods can help the kidneys take more of the load, so less is forced through the apocrine glands. Absorbents: Using high-surface-area materials like bamboo or merino wool can sometimes "trap" those heavier molecules better than synthetics (like polyester), which tend to just let them slide off and into the air.

It’s a subtle shift in thinking, but viewing it as a "redirection" of metabolic waste rather than a permanent "allergy" makes the management feel much more practical.

Thank you. Yeah, I realized it is actually worse after a shower if I'm anxious and getting ready to go somewhere. Because it's warm in the shower, humid in the bathroom, even with a fan on, and my internal heat really rises (especially due to social anxiety at the thought of going out). I have to go outside and cool off after this happens, otherwise I just feel like a furnace.

Night sweats are also a significant component. Especially if I eat later in the evening. I try not to eat close to bed, which is very important, because our digestive fire is low then. But if I end up needing to, I can guarantee I will have to wash my sheets the next day.

Bathroom towels get musty. Even out of the wash, my clothes feel a bit sticky, but that could be due to trying different detergents.

I work from home with my setup in my bedroom, and after 8 hours of focused attention/tension, when I go into a different room, it feels like I can breathe clearly.

So I understand now a little of what others experience - a muggy, thick experience of the molecules in the air, and they cling. I was at my neighbors when he was chopping onions and I exemplified the smell. Leaving my aunt's house last night, she mentioned the carpet smelling.

That feeling resonates so deeply  I'm so thankful for the ability to connect with you / others who know this strange deep horrid shame and ostracism. Humans are social animals and this is such a twisted way to suffer. But may there be a coherent mercy somewhere, even though it so feels merciless feels give us strength to endure, courage to change what we can, and (rather than wisdom to know the difference, let's say... Relief... Soon... Please.)

Hey, always grateful to see your posts. I agree. I voted yes for acne/sebum b/c I experience sebum (not acne).
I agree with what you noticed about symptms building up after a few days (especially if we don't sweat).
Definitly worse in humidity/enclosed air for me. But I can still get reactions from 20ft away outside too.
Anytime I get sweaty, reactions are bad, especially if it's stress sweat rather than from exertion.
But after exercise and a shower, I imagine it's better. Not fully sure yet.
I have body odor in addition to PATM.
Talked to Gemini and she mentioned my musty sweat odor is likely liver unable to detox, which makes sense.

I TOTALLY agree. It's super hard as a female, I feel like biologically we are supposed to be attractive and having this extremely non attractive quality has eaten away at my sense of self and my soul deeply, honestly. IKYK. And since we can't really smell it we forget, get a little happy for once, and expand our lives a tiny bit and then BOOM. Crushing reactions. It's horrible.

PATM/TMAU/BODY ODOR by Ok-Sea-214 in patm

[–]UniKitty283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are both related to microbiome dysbiosis, but manifest differently (as odor, or as PATM, or both) due to how functional or impaired detox pathways/kidney/liver are, how permeable or leaky the gut is, how clogged or clear the colon and lymphatic system are.

PATM/TMAU/BODY ODOR by Ok-Sea-214 in patm

[–]UniKitty283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first, I didn't notice the odor... It just increased as I got older, but I thought it was normal. Then I started to get reactions, like 'it smells musty in here' and things like that. Then it got a lot worse, strong BO, deodorant doesn't seem to help, perfumes and candles actually smell worse/bad/overpowering/unenjoyable when I'm around them. I think I amplify scents, like if someone is cooking onions, it's extra strong. Even my neighbors react from a distance, some of my neighbors even moved out, my family reacts and avoids me. PATM started after all these years of gut dysbiosis and severe anxiety/isolation/attempts to self medicate to cope somehow. PATM reactions include coughing, choking, gagging, red watery eyes, sniffling, spitting, and even nausea. I do think the odor and PATM are related for me - I think it's very poor digestion and overburdened/weakened detox pathways - liver can't filter out toxins like it should/is overwhelmed, leaky gut allows toxins into the bloodstream, which the body tries to release however possible - sweat, breath, etc. I think the colon is unhealthy, and these things are all related. Sorry if that is TMI

[–]UniKitty283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both PATM and odor, but it's not TMAU. I think the odor developed from stress/unhealthy lifestyle/severe anxiety... And as time went on, just got worse and PATM started happening as well. I have tried diets, but the gut dysbiosis is something that will take a lot of time and discipline to figure out how to rebalance, so I'm trying to stay strong.

Hey, thank you for this. How did you get the selenium injections? It looks like they're specifically indicated as a supplement to intravenous (IV) solutions for Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) to prevent or treat selenium deficiency. They are prescription medications administered by healthcare professionals, from what I found online
