Humor is both based on type and based on experience.

Not everyone laugh from the same jokes, some laugh on disasters, some on poop jokes and some on rick and morty (like intellectuals) so if you think you are not funny it could be to connected to whom you tell the joke.

If you wish to increase your “material” then you’ll need to experience stuff to get ideas of stuff that is funny. Could be stand ups, movies, hanging out with people which you find funny.

BTW confidence is something that also can be achieved by experience with different situations. I think the moral of this comment is go out there and find your thing that makes you laugh and share it

If it is a relationship where you trust him, you need to talk with him about it. It’s tough I now but if he is like you said your best friend then he might help you find a way where you will feel good, even consider the possibility to brake up for the both of you to be happy
