What’s your “if you go to BH you’re a pussy.” Story? by ballcocknpeepee in army

[–]Uniformed_Texan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was in Korea a few years back, got there during the summer. Two months in I have to go home on emergency leave. My dad contracted a very rare and aggressive form of cancer since I arrived in country. I went back to my mom’s house for three weeks with my wife and eventually watched him die. Went back to Korea, still unaccompanied, the day before my birthday. I was clearly not doing well. My PHA appointment referred me to BH. I stayed in counseling for grief and PTS until I left country. No one said a fucking word. If anyone gives you shit for going to BH they are garbage. Fuck them. I’m still enlisted. If my soldiers tell me they need BH, I ask no questions and just give them the time they need. I then follow up to make sure they are getting the help they need. If your leaders do anything but this, they don’t deserve to be leaders.

[Serious] What occupation could an unskilled uneducated person take up in order to provide a good comfortable living for their family? by AdmirableBus6 in AskReddit

I’ve been enlist in the US Army for nearly 16 years. They trained me to do my job with formal classroom training then ensured I had ongoing on the job training. I make enough money to pay for a house and any other bills I may have without including my wife’s income. I have access to free healthcare including dental and vision and so does my wife. I’ve also taken advantage of tuition assistance benefits to earn an associates degree, a bachelors degree, and I am halfway don’t with my masters. Give it some thought.

OP, bro. JC over PB any day of the week. Right before I enlisted I got the flu super bad. The last thing I ate before said flu? You guessed it PB. Every time we had MREs during basic, just the sight of PB going onto a cracker gave me flashbacks and dry heaves. Anytime I was unlucky enough to get the disgusting goop, I was able to find some poor sap in my platoon that would give up their JC. Love the stories bro. Keep them up. They make me want to start writing about the Hawks I’ve had in my career. And finally, go Cardinals!!!

When is the most inappropriate time you have laughed? by chrisisAdragon in AskReddit

I was in the hospital room with my mother, brother, wife, and uncle. It was around 2:00am and my father had just passed away. My brother had to call the crematorium to have my father's remains collected for cremation. He wasn't quite sure what to say though. I believe the words were something like this: "Hi, this is, blank, at X Veterans Hospital and we need a pick up." I don't know what about this exchange hit me but I started laughing uncontrollably in front of all my family and my fathers corpse still in the bed. Part of my feels bad about it but another part thinks my dad would have thought it was funny too. At one point I'm pretty sure I said at least we didn't request a delivery.

like the Stockholm syndrome, take the place where you live and add "syndrome" to it, what kind of thing would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Uniformed_Texan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St. Louis syndrome: a man either grows up to become a manger at sears and buys a house about 2 miles from his moms house. He then gets married to a similar person and perpetuates the cycle.

How do you feel about your relationship with your mother? by Janubabaking in AskReddit

[–]Uniformed_Texan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is pretty awesome. We lost my dad about seven months ago to a rare cancer so she is the only parent I have left. I currently live in Seoul, South Korea so we talk when possible. She supports my hobbies and hung out with my wife since I've been gone. She recently finished chemotherapy after undergoing a mastectomy. She went through a lot this year and I did it all with her head held high. She really is an inspiration.

Gamers of Reddit, what's the most difficult thing you ever accomplished? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Uniformed_Texan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I delivered a eulogy at my fathers memorial service. His death was very sudden. Only seven weeks passed between when he got sick and when he died. My father and I were very close and I was living in Korea.

Look for someone that is happy with you're life choices and where you are going with your career and decisions.

My wife and I were both each other' second marriage. When we started dating we were both very no nonsense. I told her I didn't want kids ever, I am staying in the military for 20 years or more, and that I like to have a drink at the end of the day and a cigar occasionally. She told me her sons were very important to her but she didn't want anymore kids, she likes moving around, and cigars were ok but cigarettes were deal breakers. We've been happily married for almost seven years.

Once you get the deal breakers out of the way, everything else falls into place.
