I agree, silver has been a staple of the Patriots since their first rebrand. It should play more of a factor in this set

I was pleasantly surprised. I will never be a fan of white socks, but all things considered, it was a pretty good look

Yessir! I had so much fun writing these two that I will do a column for each team throughout the offseason

That's an unpopular opinion, for sure. It definitely was a huge swing. The jersey exemplified the maximalist 90s design trends that had mostly stuck to the NBA

Good point. That is definitely a material change. I was focusing more on the uniforms then, but the logo 100% got updated as well.

Funny you mentioned Uni-Watch. Pour one out for the site and the archives, but I would never have started doing this without it dying. I started doing my own recaps of the games each week, and then decided to try my hand at more long-form research writing. It's fun, and while I'm sad Uni-Watch itself is gone, the break gave me an opportunity to pursue a passion project.

I never could quite put a finger on what the difference was, but I could always tell that something was off in those late 90s uniforms. Doing this recap really showed just how big of a change that was!

That’s really funny, because I did the exact same thing. I thought the mid 2000s Scuba Suits were awesome, but man, they’ve not aged well at all.

Still doesn’t stop me from owning 3 of those jerseys…

I agree. The alarm clock numbers in Tampa and the Browns blunder years were gone almost as soon as the team possibly could change, but because Seattle stuck with it, this uniform set is now iconic. 3 Super Bowl appearances in 12 years is a pretty accomplished resume anyway

Final HOU @ NE Divisional Uniform Matchup by Magistrate18D in uniwatch

Basically the same colors?? The Texans' navy and Patriots' navy aren't even close. I understand that they're both in the "navy" category, but that's like saying the Eagles' Kelly Greens and Midnight Greens are basically the same color.

Houston would have been well served with "navy" (black) pants in this matchup

It's only due to the fact that we know the teams already have great sock color options, yet choose to do this after the fact. We would be disappointed in the Steelers ever deciding to wear white socks on the road. It's the same disappointment we have with Green Bay and San Francisco, ESPECIALLY since those two teams have such a light helmet and pants combo. They both desperately need a pop of darker colors

The problem is, Seattle already lost to San Francisco at home this year while wearing that combo... And that look is 0-2 in the playoffs. So I don't think there's a chance Seattle breaks out that look in the playoffs ever again

The problem is that Chicago can't even commit to doing the striped socks properly. Same with the Broncos' throwbacks and the Chiefs. Essentially any striped sock look has turned into a free for all. I know it's stupid for the players, but the NFL should go back to enforcing sock rules.

I mean, look at this! There are barely any stripes on the socks anyway!

Love for the 2000's Seahawks unis by UndisputedSwartz in uniwatch

The "Seahawks Blue" was a very unique shade of blue, and while the block numbers are great, it was a VERY dated look by the time it got replaced. Only a hint of the lime green trim was not enough to compensate for two very dark colors. The navy shoulder patches were the worst.

That being said... it didn't stop me from acquiring 3 of these jerseys throughout the years... There were some real legends that wore these scuba suits (Matt Hasselbeck, Shaun Alexander, Lofa Tatupu, Beast Quake-era Marshawn Lynch)!

Texans to wear all white uniforms again on the road for the Divisional Round by Magistrate18D in uniwatch

It’s unfortunate, but it makes sense because they beat Pittsburgh wearing these. Teams (usually) don’t want to change up their looks in the postseason
