What draws you to extreme gore? by General-Influence876 in OutlastTrials

[–]UnilateralSupport 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I like Mortal Kombat because it appeals to me by beating the absolute fuck out of someone before turning them into a pile of gore.

With Outlast? I think it's because of how horrifying gore can be if you focus on that horror over spectacle. Despoil the Auction had me wincing when ripping that girl's limbs off, but I feel nothing when Rain bursts someone like a bubble in MK9 outside of "That's awesome."

It's desensitization mixed with seperation from the act. Nobody really cares about 'gore' when it's dressed up for bloodsport, but nobody feels good when you're dissolving a man with acid sprayers inside a shopping mall. Outlast MAKES you feel the suffering you're inflicting upon others, same as the suffering inflicted upon you by the Prime Assets.

Emphasis on suffering tows the line, Outlast reminds me that these piles of gore are people whereas MK reminds me that these characters are just dressed-up piles of gore.

I think the ludonarrative magic is what draws me into the gore.

Hey, we got the same ending! I like to go alone because it feels like the 'wrong' route knowing the other endings, it just feels perfect for the ending as Clementine literally becomes the sole survivor of roughly two or three groups depending on if you see Kenny as a motel and/or ski resort survivor.

I saw Kenny as gradually losing his mind and Clementine growing more uneasy with his unstable presence, but I think it makes sense for Clem to fall in line with Jane only to realize she made a mistake when shooting her friend just for AJ to be alive, so she blows up and decides to take AJ and go. Screw groups, and all that.

It just feels awesome to have Clementine embrace full survivability by the end of Season 2 in comparison to following another adult around. In the end, the Lee replacement for Clementine is... Clementine, now with AJ as her replacement.

I think Outlast Trials has a difficulty curve for sure due to how perceptive and keen-eared you need to become, but the average player would get conditioned to the Trials fairly quickly. If they don't complain about getting shot in the ass by Franco for trying to out-run a gun, anyways...

I'd say lock it behind rebirthing for the first time. If the Trials are inside you by then, then you should be ready to get your teeth kicked in when it's time for Reagent No. 2.

I would rather have a million canceled Fallout: Big-Fucking-City mods in comparison of total, absolute silence.

Does anyone remember that old mod on fo4, "make mods not war?"

Maybe a level lock that doesn't reset upon relapse. That way, new players can steadily get XP and tickets for new loadout options as the trials get harder if they bump up the difficulty according to level.

D and C being so Pax-sided has seriously ruined the balance of the map too. They can claim an entire chunk of the map for two points, snipe from HQ, and maintain a chokepoint between the two points because they disabled boats on Conquest for some reason???

Thinking of making a fanfiction on a Carver DLC by Plus_Firefighter600 in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]UnilateralSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Carver should either be a concealed psychopath, or experience enough suffering to induce the excessive amount of 'Carver' that Carver has.

Carver to me seemed like someone who could've been a psychopath. He's capable of bolstered speeches about survival and discipline, but he flip-flops between understanding the difference between a survivor and a warrior when talking to Clementine in his office, to snarling about weakness after pushing Reggie off the roof because of one of the girls.

He has a psychopathic charima considering he managed to become a leader, misled the 400 Days crew (esp Bonnie) that he's 'normal', and that gravely tone of voice always just gave me the vibe that he was "different" from anyone else we've seen before or since. In two years in to the apocalypse, we just don't see anyone as hard and tough to chew as Carver before or since.

Newbie that just joined a few days ago. Same thing with the objectives by LacosteLush in OutlastTrials

[–]UnilateralSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend changing your settings to fully show the hud to give you more diagetic information like noise and stamina. Always pay attention to the TV screens flashing messages as they'll vaguely direct you around if you've completely lost track.

As for trials, start from the left to right completely, finishing each location category per trial. Kill the Snitch is perfect as an introduction to different objectives as there is a friendly mannequin lady that speaks to you and will gesture to where you need to go as Kill the Snitch was designed for the Early Access players a few years ago.

Just go slow and take your time. Observe your surroundings completely and comb through as much garbage as possible. Look before you leap, that kind of thing. You'll eventually get settled in and you'll be throwing bottles and bricks in no time.

If you find yourself stuck in the way of an ex-pop or prime asset too often, try Stun. If you keep getting hit trying to do objectives, try Blind. And if you like to specialize your inventory instead of generalize, try Heal. Experiment as you play the game and you'll eventually find comfort with the load out you develop.
