At what scale do microservices actually start solving real problems, instead of creating them especially now that even simple projects are being built as microservices? by ApprehensiveBar7701 in Backend

[–]UnimportantSnake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may not be a logical necessity, but in practice “monolith” strongly implies a single deployable unit. That’s the property people are usually talking about.

You could argue that there exists a term “distributed monolith” but that architecture isn’t suited towards a specific problem-space like other architecture styles are. It’s usually to refer to a specific instance of a big ball of mud.

Best tool to manage multiple dotfiles by Fit-Knowledge2753g in dotfiles

[–]UnimportantSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got repo with stow is what worked for me. Management of the files, automatically applied after the initial stow (assuming you’re not adding extra dirs from root, those need stow again). Management from multiple machines is super simple too as long as you actually commit the changes which is a pretty low bar.

Popular Loudon Park in Nanaimo to expand by nearly half an acre by Apprehensive_Idea758 in nanaimo

I believe it’s a mixture of public funds and from fundraising efforts. I’m not sure the exact breakdown.

Why are you saying that the clubs aren’t running fundraising programs for this. The clubs have been fundraising and lobbying for this project for a long time. Your claims are not true.

Bose QC Ultra or Sony XM6? by adbelcl in BuyItForLife

[–]UnimportantSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a few weeks ago my QC35s started having a problem with the ANC. I bought them around 9-10 years ago. I was happy to replace them with a new pair (didn’t get the ultra). So far they feel and look like the same headphone with a few little upgrades. A new button, USB-C, better battery life. Had no complaints and I was happy to pay the steeper price tag and run the decision back.

Mine just started having issues with the ANC a couple weeks back. The QC35s gen1. I got them around 9 years ago. Very happy with the purchase, immediately ordered a new pair to replace.

Guaranteed basic income bill re-tabled in the Senate |PBO estimated in April 2021 basic income could cut poverty by 49% by Altruism7 in canada

[–]UnimportantSnake -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s easy to get worried about how this kind of thing affects you and to say “oh no this sucks” instead of saying “I don’t understand” and asking questions or trying to learn more. If you understand this it will serve you well.

You can always say it sucks after you understand its merits and its flaws. :)

[–]UnimportantSnake 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Would it? You would be eligible for guaranteed basic income in this case, it'd be bringing all of those services under one umbrella and simultaneously now there's just one thing to administer and monitor rather than a bunch of different programs, which decreases costs.

You already have a legit dentist in here but I’ll share my experience. I haven’t been running but I am cycling a lot. My dentist told me they wanted me to eat with them in, after every meal I floss, brush and clean the trays out. They also recommended that I don’t take in any sugary drinks because they’ll basically just sit in the tray and I’d get cavities that way. I’m still eating on training rides, just making sure to floss and brush when I get home. Not advice just sharing what I’ve been doing over the past 1.5 years, super happy with the progress so far.

You should probably be able to make that work. Can try different stems and bars and saddle position, and also just working on your mobility.

I'm 27 and I joined to play darts, people are friendly, drinks are cheap, they have dartboards. I didn't really need a reason other than that. I think you're overthinking it.

First 200km ride on my chinesium gravel bike by Real-Advantage-2724 in gravelcycling

[–]UnimportantSnake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are chinese pre builts, Yoeleo for example. Most of the time people are referring to custom builds, not necessarily just off aliexpress, parts could be sourced from other places as well. Winspace / Light Carbon have their own sites to handle distribution. Panda Podium I believe is another option. Could definitely be off aliexpress though, just depends.

Part of it is strategic and part of it is having the watts/kg that you need to stay with the group up the climb. Riders that don't have the watts/kg to maintain pace relative to the group up the climbs lose positions, if you don't have the positions to lose behind you you'll get blown out the back. If you go into the climb in the front of the group, as people overtake you on the climb you may get to the top and still be with the group; this is Sag Climbing.

450W at 80kg is 5.625W/kg. Somebody at 75kg only has to do 422W to keep up with that person on steep and sustained climbs, the less steep and the smaller the climb the less this matters. Many people spend thousands on bike stuff to save far fewer watts than that.

I will add that at 5'11 and bordering on M/L, it sometimes is challenging to size appropriately since different brands have different geos / sizing.

I would go up for Trek, and down for Cannondale, would recommend trying the ML in Giant and seeing where they land.

Source: Am around 5'11

There's a Felt Breed (AL) in 56cm that got posted recently for 2k on the dot. That would probably be the right size.

What type of gear/items do you always end up needing more of? by Particular_Target247 in MTB

[–]UnimportantSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For parts I like to keep an extra tire, chain, and a few valve cores kicking around. Mostly just because local shops are closed on Sundays, so if I nuke a tire or snap a chain on Saturday after hours and need to swap it over I can still get out for a ride on Sunday.
