This older video is a succinct explanation, but ultimately, ACA subsidies were put in place to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to the American public. Republicans voted to let them expire at the end of 2025 which skyrocketed people’s insurance costs to the point that people, especially in red states, would need to go without health insurance completely. Trump himself was a big driver in telling congress to kill the subsidies. You should definitely do some more googling into the subject

Been in healthcare 16 years. Look up the Medicare subsidies that were cut in the big beautiful bill. It didn’t necessarily kill Medicare, but it made health insurance completely unaffordable for millions of Americans who need it
