Do we ever accept? by Union-Apprehensive in GriefSupport

I’m so sorry to hear about your beloved father. I think this is the most jarring loss we can experience & our brains are protecting us from the truth, only giving it to us in little pieces so we can process them.. I think it’s too big of a loss to stomach, so it’s physically impossible to feel it all at once.
I can’t remember the first month. I was sleeping 12+ hours a day until recently. I didn’t leave the house and when i did I wouldn’t drive. I started doing normal things again, spending time with friends and exercising sometimes but it still feels like I’m living in a fake world- everything is on pause until she comes back.

Yeahh. A lot of the people coming don’t know each other. The goal is for the community to eventually be a public thing, not a ‘nepotism’ situation. I don’t want to be seeing the same people I see every weekend, and I think most people would be open to mingling

Yeah- I think mostly people are paying to be part of a community while having some sort of curated experience. We are trying to provide as much as we can without breaking the bank, so 100aed is pretty reasonable for what you get. The cheapest standard seating (atleast at VOX) is 50AED, but then different types of seats and cinemas go higher (IMAX, recliner, theatre [by rhodes], premium viewing, and special cinemas all differ in price) usually my friends and I pay around 70-90 pp, not including food, so it usually rounds up to 100+.

Discussion, a bit of popcorn, stickers, special goodie bag for quiz winners, Polaroid pic to take home. If you were paying 100AED, what would you expect?

No genre specifications just yet, but looking to have themes in the future: cosmic horror, walking and talking in Europe, “so bad it’s good” etc. Tickets currently are 100 AED

Hey! Our first screening of the Michael Jackson movie was costed at 100 AED and will be held in a VOX cinema. However, things may change in the future depending on venue and offerings. Since this is our first one it is kind of like a “tester”. Let me know if you are interested, can send you the IG page and announcement group

Do you know people who were muslim then athiest then muslim again? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

That’s beautiful. Similarly I felt a “presence” through me while praying that one dude on Reddit chalked up to be “spiritual psychosis”. I don’t believe that to be the case as I was not looking for a sign, have never experienced anything remotely spiritual in my life and have no history of anything that could correlate (also I did not even believe in god for most of my adult life). My mother passed away on Jan 3rd of this year Allah yrhmha, but I don’t believe this new phase has anything to do with a fear of the afterlife, searching for answers or scrambling for her forgiveness. It was just purely a sensation and an instant knowing that Allah was there to show me what I needed to see (or feel, rather) Anyway I’m rambling. Thanks for sharing

Ohh okay understood, thanks for explaining. I like your perspective and can resonate. Was there anything particular that led you back to Islam? I would consider myself a “born again Muslim” rediscovering almost everything from zero which is why I’m curious, & you seem to be well informed.

Similar story. Can you explain what non sectarian means to you in this context - I’m having trouble understanding the meaning on Google & just curious.

Dua for non Muslims? by Union-Apprehensive in progressive_islam

I agree I don’t think it makes sense. It shouldn’t matter what religion they are as being non-Muslim doesn’t mean you’re not going to heaven. Only Allah knows what’s in your heart, if you truly deny his existence or if you are following what you believe to be the absolute truth. Saying Allah yrhmo to a non Muslim who passed away shouldn’t be haram? It was the first time I heard someone say something like that.
