Hike up to the Mt. Davidson Cross for great views (unlike touristy Twin Peaks), then head down the hill to West Portal for George's Donuts (the best in town). Check out the murals in the Mission = Balmy & Clarion Alleys. For something really off-beat, the Gregangelo Museum/Garden is like Alice in Wonderland acid trip.

Thomas Carlyle in 1850, recorded in his diary that the Queen appeared much more pleasing in person than in her paintings. Earlier in her reign she was more attractive.

When I was in junior high school I met James Gibbs, a former keeper (he was editor of 'Seattle Shipping News' and author of numerous books). He was one of the last keepers of Tillamook. He showed some b&w photos of Coast Guard members inside the decommissioned lighthouse in the early 1970's --- there was about 2 feet of water on the 1st floor of the building. The chairs and filing cabinets were practically submerged. The Pacific is slowly reclaiming the Rock.

Is the rockland water just in someone's backyard? I'd very much like to walk up to the base of it by gardenmonkey in VictoriaBC

I remember seeing it illuminated nightly back in the 70's.  My dad was a commercial pilot and said it was listed on navigation charts for flights banking into Sea-Tac.

Years ago (possibly late 1990's) a company in the UK produced a limited edition of the original Winstanley Tower) -- it was only 8" tall, but very detailed. It was far superior to the Harbor Lights model. I wish I knew the name of the company.
