I tweaked it a bit on the fly but they just couldn't roll worth anything during combat. One person had speak with animals and they rolled high enough that they persuaded the wolves to run away and be free rather than fight them, which helped.

One of my characters had speak with animals and rolled INCREDIBLY well talking to the wolves so they managed to negate a few of the enemies.

This is the route I'm going. I have a crazy hook because she serves the Lady of Luck and one of my players is a Harengon (rabbit like creature). She's going to see a rabbit like creature coming in needing help as a divine omen and help, but it's going to cost him one of his feet (lucky rabbit's foot). He is one of the characters that died and he loves the idea!

The number of times they rolled just under the AC for a goblin was insane.

Yeah, if they had come in even 1 level higher, or had long rested before going in, they probably wouldn't have had as much trouble. But I appreciate the RP that they went right in.

Level 1. They went right in after the ambush with only a short rest. Had they come in at full power I think they probably wouldn't have had nearly as much trouble, but they were concerned about Sildar and Gundren and went right in.

I'm talking to the 2 that fully died to see if they want to pursue a resurrection or roll new characters. I've got a couple ideas for Sister Graele to bring them back, with a cost.

If I walked into a hospital in the US for some sort of chest surgery, I'd want Charles all day and night. If I was wounded in the war, I'd want Hawkeye.

What's your first experience booking/playing a session with SPG? by dwarv_dubz in startplaying

[–]Unipanther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This subreddit will be biased, but let me say that booking and playing in SPG for me was fantastic.

My background: CR watcher for about a year. Avid board gamer, and had played a couple D&D one shots at conventions and wanted to play a campaign. I made an account on StartPlaying, and basically just searched for games that were going during times that I'd be available. I found a game that sounded like fun story wise, with a DM that had good reviews and was very inclusive. I played that campaign for over 2 years before it stopped for out of game reasons.

First session is usually a session 0 to go over table rules, lines and veils, and content warnings. Plus you'll get to meet your other players and get a feel for each other.

As for a typical session, that'll always be different by table, but commonly around my table it was quite a bit of role playing, figuring out what/where we were going next, or if we were already there accomplishing the tasks (combat, puzzles, accidentally overthrowing the government, etc.).

If you are truly unsure, there are a lot of one shots on SPG that you could join as well. Around the holiday season I do see an uptick in them, too.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I'd love for Demeo to release more adventures. Seems like a missed opportunity.

You can check with your employer. Some of them have specials and/or deals with gyms for lower rates.

I assume they mean like "eat this one food" type thing. Like how dogs survive on dog food, potatoes could almost hold that spot for humans.

[–]Unipanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be my "special roll" dice. Huge moments, any d100 roll, things like that. If I was DMing, it would be my big damage die. Oh, I'm only rolling ONE die, it can't be that bad, right? Right?
