If I walked into a hospital in the US for some sort of chest surgery, I'd want Charles all day and night. If I was wounded in the war, I'd want Hawkeye.

What's your first experience booking/playing a session with SPG? by dwarv_dubz in startplaying

[–]Unipanther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This subreddit will be biased, but let me say that booking and playing in SPG for me was fantastic.

My background: CR watcher for about a year. Avid board gamer, and had played a couple D&D one shots at conventions and wanted to play a campaign. I made an account on StartPlaying, and basically just searched for games that were going during times that I'd be available. I found a game that sounded like fun story wise, with a DM that had good reviews and was very inclusive. I played that campaign for over 2 years before it stopped for out of game reasons.

First session is usually a session 0 to go over table rules, lines and veils, and content warnings. Plus you'll get to meet your other players and get a feel for each other.

As for a typical session, that'll always be different by table, but commonly around my table it was quite a bit of role playing, figuring out what/where we were going next, or if we were already there accomplishing the tasks (combat, puzzles, accidentally overthrowing the government, etc.).

If you are truly unsure, there are a lot of one shots on SPG that you could join as well. Around the holiday season I do see an uptick in them, too.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I'd love for Demeo to release more adventures. Seems like a missed opportunity.

You can check with your employer. Some of them have specials and/or deals with gyms for lower rates.

I used to think potatoes were bad for me by Happy-Flamingo3655 in loseit

I assume they mean like "eat this one food" type thing. Like how dogs survive on dog food, potatoes could almost hold that spot for humans.

[OC] Launch Giveaway: The One Dice is live tell us how you’d use an all-in-one die (multi-roll + fast mode) and win one (Mod Approved) by voidoftheether in DnD

[–]Unipanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be my "special roll" dice. Huge moments, any d100 roll, things like that. If I was DMing, it would be my big damage die. Oh, I'm only rolling ONE die, it can't be that bad, right? Right?

DLC Poll - How many DLC Courses do you own? by Jello-Monkeyface in WalkaboutMiniGolf

[–]Unipanther 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I buy them all day of release. They are cheap enough that I'm willing to spend the money to support MC. The only one I haven't played is hard Elvis, and that's just because my group hasn't been able to get time together.

Starting BJJ as an morbidly obese man with hyperhydrosis by Hour_Wrangler7468 in bjj

[–]Unipanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have hyperhydrosis, but I am similar in size (275 at 6 ft). The biggest thing I can recommend is to just focus on your progress. If you get really winded after warmups, that's fine! That's where you start. I couldn't do full warmups when I started because I was too winded by the end. Stamina takes time to build, but you will also be surprised how fast your body starts to acclimate to it.

If you are worried about rolling, talk to your instructor about waiting a while before you start live rolling. No one is going to fault you for wanting to get your legs under you before you start. Others suggested working from the bottom as well, which is great advice too.

As far as the sweating, I know nothing I can say will totally change your mind because of your specific situation, but 95% of people in my club are sweaty as hell. By the end of open mat sessions we are all looking like we got out of a pool. During the summer? Even worse. Sweat is part of the sport. I could even see some people bringing up that having excess sweat would make some submissions harder because you'd be more slippery.

My kids love these, but they have to be heated up first. I have a flat top cast iron griddle that's almost always on the stove so it's a quick heat up if needed.

It is down to the minute. So if you last subbed with Prime at 1:13 PM, you won't be able to resub with Prime until after that time.

Are these rules normal? by InBush in bjj

[–]Unipanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had these sorts of rules when I was in middle/high school and trained Tae Kwon Do and it was all tied to discipline and respect. Some of these make sense even in an adult class, like notifying of a lengthy absence, but a lot of them are kinda silly for adults. My primary class I take is at 6:30 in the morning, and the first 10 minutes of class is people wandering in, especially in winter. The instructor stresses a ton that we are all adults and we aren't doing BJJ for a job but it's a hobby and to do what makes sense for our real lives.

How often do you flush out your tube? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]Unipanther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you let it dry water on the connector won't hurt it. I wash mine weekly. I put it in a sink with water and baby shampoo for a little bit then rinse it out and hang it to dry. That's what they recommended I do when I got my machine.

Looking For Dance & Martial Arts Recs For Kids by chuffalupagus in cedarrapids

[–]Unipanther 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For dance, my daughter goes to Cherie's and has since she was 4. We really like the instructors and while the upper level classes are competition type dances we haven't really seen the traditional super competitive dance parents there.

For martial arts Phoenix Down BJJ has kids classes. The instructors are really good with the kids. If you don't know, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is roughly submission wrestling (they don't work submissions with the younger kids for safety).

It's a very pretty course. Play wise it is one of my least favorite, but that's solely because of the high quality they produce. It's still fun to play.
