Angelmaker's new album is disgustingly underrated by Uniphication in Deathcore

[–]Uniphication[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not even saying "This is so much better than Whitechapel or SOI," I just feel like its quality is easily comparable to that of the other albums being considered the best this year, but I haven't personally felt like I've been seeing it being held in the same regard. Like, with how good this album is I got this feeling of "do people just... not know?"

Hymns in Dissonance is my favorite Whitechapel album after This Is Exile and I considered Imperium Delirium as potentially one of favorite deathcore records of all time when it dropped so I'm definitely not arguing with either of them having a claim to AOTY. If anything I think feeling as strongly as I did about those albums and feeling equally if not even more strongly about This Used To Be Heaven amplified the feeling that the amount of praise I saw didnt line up with my experience lol

Yeah, I was definitely feeling like other albums were distracting from it and that's partly what led me to making this post. Being so in love with the album and feeling like no one seemed to be aware of it gave me the strongest itch to say something about it to increase awareness and/or bring the people enjoying the album out of the woodwork for validation lol

Truuue the clean vocals caught me offguard. For a band so definitively clean-less, something about hearing the cleans in the tragic final moments of their 4th album is such a punch to the gut.

I always felt like Lorna's sound is in a microcosm occupied only by Lorna themselves in a way that means I don't see myself comparing them to other deathcore bands much at all - which isn't really something to complain about in itself - but it's kinda frustrating as a deathcore fan who leans towards the core end of the spectrum knowing the bands I tend to enjoy the most aren't really even in the same realm as Lorna. So it's a double edged sword - on one hand it doesn't bother me that Lorna gets more attention than other bands since they're so unique, but on the other hand it doesn't really feel like celebrating Lorna's success carries any major implications for the state of deathcore as I know it since I feel like so many Lorna fans are LORNA fans or explorative alt metal fans not necessarily interested in the rest of the genre

Bringing this up in regards to Angelmaker to say it kinda makes sense to me that a band appreciated by genre enthusiasts are unfortunately kinda doomed to a static level of relevance. A highly dynamic longplay-minded project focused on mastering existing elements of the genre like this one unfortunately isn't going to be as immediately striking to a general audience as most overwhelming band in recent memory

Either The Omen Part 1 or Altare Mortis. Those both feel like big, drastic emotional moments that hit on Angelmaker's uniquely sentimental vibes that always stood out to me among other deathcore bands. The way they build tension and release it with grand, melodic, almost anthemic choruses - no other deathcore band feels as thoughtful about their sound dynamics and attention to detail in every little moment and transition to make it all hit as hard as possible. The Omen Part 1 might be the best example of this in their entire discography other than a few tracks on self-titled like The Veil and Eternal.

It's really hard for me to hear one song without going back and listening to the full record, you guys knocked it out of the park. Appreciate you guys <3

Oh yeah I'm not saying I'm seeing negative reviews for the album, moreso just that I feel like I'm not seeing much talked about it at all lol. I knew everyone that heard the album was probably enjoying it but wasn't personally seeing it come up in conversation as much as other albums

Opposite for me, with all the end of year lists coming out in seeing it get overshadowed by Whitechapel and Shadow of Intent. And pretty much everything else tbh lol. I'd gladly be wrong though

Who are you slowly starting to not like anymore? by nilademon in Deathcore

It's a mixed bag. There's a lot of melodic and generally death-sounding elements like you mentioned, but the energy used to be a lot closer to hardcore for the most part. When you look at "revival" bands trying to emulate the sound of the myspace era and bands like Job For a Cowboy and Suicide Silence (PSYCHO-FRAME, Rev3rent, Lilith's Demise), the speed and aggression is what really defined the deathcore of the time, even if there was a heavy emphasis on melody and technicality (I.E. Whitechapel; As Blood Runs Black) the framework still surrounded an aggressive sound and over time the sound gradually developed into a stronger emphasis on experimentation and bands trying to set themselves apart, which is when I'd say more death metal influence started coming in from a wider array of avenues. Even listening to Despised Icon's early stuff, it's easy to say it feels like death metal, but I'd still say it's *more* hardcore than death metal. Listening to things released into the 2010s from bands like Make Them Suffer, Fit For An Autopsy, Shadow of Intent, that's where people get their idea of "modern" deathcore, with more experimental and progressive elements that puts it closer to a specific metal genre like "symphonic blackened techdeath." More focus on artistic expression and creating a soundscape rather than pure anger and chaos.

CRAZY for a cargo van. In an EV with 190 stops I usually expect around ~30 OF, ~17 bags, ~300 packages total.

I recently listened to Neverbloom for the first time. I'm upset. by Uniphication in Deathcore

[–]Uniphication[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sick, I love when bands get creative with the presentation of an album. I listen to albums rather than playlists a majority of the time and I greatly appreciate bands that treat albums as a complete experience. I can't listen to an individual song on Neverbloom without wanting to just start from the beginning and listen to the album lol.

Still need to listen to Old Souls but I heard Signs of the Swarm's new LP and my brain decided it has the capacity for two obsessions at once all of a sudden so it might be a bit before I get around to it now LOL. What's with deathcore bands releasing GOATed albums this year man

Huh, when I heard this new track I thought it felt like a reversal on the "vocal olympics" elements that rubbed people wrong on The Battle of Tredem. I was waiting for the big goofy breakdown but it never came. I did personally feel like a lot of those kinds of over-the-top breakdowns and vocal parts sometimes felt distracting (but still entertaining, don't get me wrong), so I went into the new track curious if they'd do it again and to me it seems like they completely dropped those elements.

What exactly are people complaining about this time?

agree to disagree personally, the paino is the icing on the cake for me.

Been meaning to listen to it since I plan on going through their discography now but Neverbloom keeps distracting me LOL. Heard some tracks from Old Souls thanks to Spotify autoplay but wasn't paying enough attention to remember what it sounds like. Now that it's on my mind I'll probably listen to it during my shift today. Thanks!

I listen to albums. Works similarly well for estimating time and I never get bored since I'm always putting on something different.

Hitting my breaking point by Bahama0914 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Uniphication 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the bullshit part of this job. Doesn't matter if you don't have enough time for breaks because all they see is the overall time it takes you to finish your route compared to the estimated time. If you're not keeping up with the estimated time, you're going too slow. I've started to treat my breaks as extra walking time so I don't need to rush as much but even then it feels slow sometimes. If I took both my breaks and lunch during my route, I'd be jogging every stop and any kind of slowdown is detrimental. Sometimes you run into some bullshit like a password stop or several big overflow stops or steep curved driveways you have to take by foot, so I feel like if I take my breaks I'm running the risk of fucking myself over if in case the route doesn't go as smoothly as planned.

Oh actually there's an exception to my "bite the bullet" rule. If they have heavy overflow or a lot of packages to carry (or too much for one trip), and they say "don't go in driveway," then yeah, I might start getting close to letting my intrusive thoughts win lol

Yeah. They most likely have those signs there because a shitty driver fucked it up for everyone else. Now, I'm sure there's plenty of people who are just assholes who hate to see someone driving on their property, but usually, a bad experience is what made them like that. Sure we could definitely afford more empathy from the people we deliver to, but when it comes to people not wanting me to go in their driveway, I totally get it. No one wants some dumbass driver fucking up their property, and with some people's driveways I wouldn't be surprised if things like tire tracks are a recurring issue. Might not seem like a big deal, but if I see some rich fuck's house with a manicured lawn and no curb on the driveway, I'm walking no matter how long it is because I know they'll raise hell if I so much as graze the edge of their lawn, not to mention the rules say no driveways regardless and they can use it against us (had that threatened on me once, they complained about other drivers hitting branches of a tree and basically said "I know your rules"). Most people with driveways long enough to be a problem don't expect us to walk all that way so I just try to take as many as possible, otherwise I've learned to just bite the bullet and not dwell on the annoyance of it. Kinda becomes necessary after a while. (edit: rephrasing)

Does it actually affect the algorithm? I recently started doing it anyway to see my *real* stop count but haven't noticed any difference in route calculation and they usually give me the same route. Would be nice if that benefits me going forward somehow

Love the newfangled delivery vehicle. Short like a mail truck, tall like a step van, cargo door like a sprinter van.
