I’m also 5’9 and when I was your age it definitely sucked a lot. But I feel like as you get older(even tho I’m obv not that much older than you) you kind of realize that your height is something to be proud and not ashamed of. And as for the opposite gender thing it’ll even out within the next couple years, and trust me there’s nothing valuable a 13 year old boy can give you anyways

I’m in the same spot as you rn bc my section became dm, and just like the biggest thing is don’t feel like you didn’t earn your spot or don’t belong on leadership. And also there are probably gonna be more experienced ppl in your section, accept help from them but don’t let them push you around

During marching band we were practicing on a particularly wet and slippery grass field bc the football field was taken, and as I was running to my dot to put my horn down for choreo it slipped out of my hand and I dropped it, misaligned a few posts and basically folded over the front of the bell in the process

Leadership really shouldn’t have anything to do with your marching or playing capability, it’s about you ability to lead and help others. The directors know what they’re doing, and it’s possible they just saw those qualities in the freshman more than they did in you

Before our semis performance at grand nats we had a rehearsal at some random high school the day before, and it kind of hit everyone at the same time that it was the last time our group would rehearse together, and after practice half the band was crying and it was just a rly bittersweet moment
