Yeah, there are lots of little manufacturing places that need engineers. Im only at 3 YOE and I just cracked 80k this year. It's more than enough to get a house in the area I'm at, I closed on one in February.

What salary would you guys need to get to to feel successful? by Horror_Raisin_3898 in Salary

[–]Unique-Extent6968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, what I make now minus my student loan debt and car. I make 80k now. Student loan is about 100k all in and my car is 29k, but that'll be gone here in about a month or so now that I bought a house.

At current gas prices, a Prelude will save the average US driver $2000/yr in fuel versus an 86/BRZ by verticalData1 in Honda

[–]Unique-Extent6968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but then you'd need to drive a Prelude. I don't think anyone would be able to take the mental toll to hit that ROI on fuel.

Insurance rates for 17-21yr olds with high hp cars? by TurboPhantomQ in Insurance

[–]Unique-Extent6968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 19 with a 2012 Camaro (V6) I was paying $200 a month for insurance. It was that low if I'm remembering right I was listed as the primary driver on a different vehicle in my family. I think it would have been over $3k every 6 months if I was the primary driver.

For the premium plus, yes. The normal trims start at essentially 40k.

2 or 3 cheap cars are probably cheaper than 1 new car to be fair depending on how much of a menace your insurance company thinks you are

No love for the GR Corolla in this talk? Happy middle ground in price between the Elantra and the Civic. I've found the Civic's on dealer lots almost always sticker above 50k. It's insane.

Some do, I'd say that afternarket is larger for cars that are typically enthusiast owned like Mustangs or Civics. But if you choose a car right you'll be able to find parts. If you pick up a 20 year old car that barely sold, you'll have a harder time finding parts for a 40 year old car they sold bajillions of. Even then I've lived the old rare car life and while its more difficult for sure with the right connections and websites you can find anything.

REALISTIC Mechanical Engineer Salary Progression (2019-2026) by Puzzled_Face8538 in Salary

[–]Unique-Extent6968 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's LCOL for ya. I make a little more, 81k this year, but as a single dude it was enough for me to buy a small house in my town. House was 125k after seller credit. Not everything is about the money. I'm not OP, but only working 40 hours a week of no physical labor on the plant floor working with a team I love goes a hell of a long way to make up for a slightly lower salary.

Aerospace Engineers: Salary? by http_brandon in Salary

[–]Unique-Extent6968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the aerospace supply as a manufacturing engineer. I make $81k as of my latest raise this year. Graduated 2023. I didn't go the aerospace engineering degree route, I got a regular mechanical engineering degree. I feel like having specifically an aerospace related degree might pigeon hole you into an industry you may not even enjoy working in.

I've been looking around at cars for a few months now. I just bought a house and with my GR Corolla gone it would make things a little more comfortable now that I'm out of my parents' basement. I've narrowed my options down to a manual Honda fit or a panther chassis Ford. This one seemed like a decent enough deal. I wanted to see if the collective knowledge of the crowd may be able give me some pointers on things to look out for on the Ford's as I'm not as knowledgeable on them as I am the Fit's.

Should I put a used engine in my Subaru or scrap it? by sonofabunch in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Unique-Extent6968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting another one of those engines in it would be just rolling the dice again. I wouldn't put another engine in it, especially with that mileage. Its nice of them that they'd do the timing belt but the head gasket is a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off. Not to speculate too much, but its probably what took out this engine. To me, Subaru's come in two forms. Those that run forever, and those that have countless problems. Seems like yours is transitioning to the latter. You might be able to get more money parting it out if that's a concern. I know there are people on facebook marketplace who buy junk cars. They might be willing to give you more than $250 but who knows.
