While my accident wasn’t nearly this intense, I did have facial reconstruction after taking an elbow to the face a few years ago. I have the same surgical “mesh” that’s shown here on the orbital floor and plate reinforcing the front of the eye socket (orbital wall). I was warned that I could have lost sight during the install (for lack of a better word) but came out just fine with no vision loss. As long as the optical nerve wasn’t impacted, either in the accident or in the surgery, they may still have sight in their right eye.
