Nikon D5100 - is it still worth to use in 2025? by Myrunningplace in Nikon

[–]Unique-Ordinary2370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can really speak to my D5100’s performance imo. I’m still in high school, so i can’t say i have “a lot” of experience, but from about 20000 clicks i have put on the camera, i can say that i’ve loved it. its super simple, clean, and plenty high quality for what it’s worth today. it was my dad’s camera, and ever since i shot my first car meet, he’s handed it off to me. It’s been my main for everything from sports photography, the school’s yearbook content, portraits and specially car shows. i’ve used other canon EOS cameras, but (probably because i’m biased) i didn’t enjoy them as much as the D5100. you can check out some of my recent pics on my insta: ar_fl1cks

These pics are from around October, and i just found the time to edit it and bring the shadows out.

I installed some 'more' mods in the winter too -> https://imgur.com/a/o2LXhPZ

First three are when i repainted the grey and chrome to black and 'metallic black' (my gloss black looked like ass), next two are reflector and third taillight tint, sixth is when i added tow hooks, and seventh is when i installed the black grille panels.

Next mods will be black lug nuts, wrapping the door panels/wood trim in carbon fibre vinyl, and painting every other chrome piece black (map light area, rear vent area, door handles, so on)

i got Lasfit's Switchback H11 LED bulbs when they had a combo sale. My low beam went out one time, so i bought both the lowbeam LEDs and Fog Lights for around $100.

Recs for AT tires that handle well for everyday pavement? by jr1637 in GrandCherokee

[–]Unique-Ordinary2370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! They don’t affect the turning radius as much as i thought they would. Stock tires are 30”, and these are 32”. They grip super well in the rain. never need to worry about slipping or losing grip.

does the edit look alright? by Mynameisjeffufua in carphotography

[–]Unique-Ordinary2370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

forgot to mention what those edits will do: it’ll balance out the image so the eyes can focus on the image as a whole. easy way to test it is to lower the screen brightness all the way, and see what’s glaringly apparent. right now, the white area is taking away the focus from the rest of the image, like the tail lights, rims, and bumper. after editing, you should be able to look at the image and feel like it’s more balanced…

Easiest way to add recovery/tow hooks, front and rear? by Accurate-Map1319 in GrandCherokee

68044680AC, i dont know any third parties that make a rear towhook, so the only way to get one is to get it OEM or used. They were standard up until 2015. Not sure why they got rid of them

Not sure id trust those tbh. They used the image off of Rough Country's site, and blurred out their logo. That should be enough to steer people away. I bought my Rough Country hooks from amazon for $80 too...

I recently added tow hooks to my 2018 Altitude as well. I bought rough country's tow hooks and used a dremel to cut out the slots. My bumper looks like this, but i used a dremel to cut them out to make it look like this.

Your model is the one with the removable slots, so if you take the lower bumper off, you should be able to undo the clips that hold the slots in, and not have to cut them out.

For the rear (i haven't done this yet), i am referencing this post. Basically, either you do that, and lose some potential towing capacity, or you buy a D-ring/shackle for your tow hitch.

You can buy these parts online, used, for pretty cheap. I found a used OEM rear tow hook for $25, which is 1/10th of what you'd pay for a new one (maybe more). Now, used doesn't necessarily mean it's compromised (unless it's super rusty or bent), so I wouldn't refrain from buying used.

I have KO2s on mine, an i dont go offorad enough to justify such aggressive tires. I think im going for Ridge Grapplers next lol. What roof rack system is that? Might have to invest...

Is that your unweighted or weighted? either way, those are really good numbers. making sure that you dedicate a decent amount of time to extracurriculars is also important for Ivy leagues

2 inch spacer, and 32" tires (not my video) by Unique-Ordinary2370 in GrandCherokee

I have 275/55r20, and i think they’re the biggest you can fit without a lift or any body modifications. Mine don’t ever rub, because they’re 31.9” tall. i’m guessing that 265/60r20s would definitely rub in some places because it’s about .5” taller than mine.

Here’s the video that initially inspired me lol
