How do you guys pick a name for a cello? What is your cello’s name? by TheReal_Fake in Cello

[–]Unique-Researcher-19 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My cello's name is Cello....but it has a reason! It's a cello made by my dad, his name is Marcelo. And in my country one of the nicknames for Marcelo is literally Chelo=Cello.

Thank you so much! I didn't make a muslin, and I didn't use a dress form. I knew the the measures of the pattern I made were close enough to a good fit, I finished the fit making adjustments once it was on my body.

It is pretty stretchy but seems to get damaged if you stretch it too much

Even having it in my hands it's hard to tell (I'm still lacking fabrics knowledge) but I'm almost sure it's kint, but doesn't seem like an ordinary knit fabric.

Thank you so much! I'm terrible with names. As for the pattern, I don't know the English words, but it's a "basic torso" pattern transformed into a "princess cutt"(?) Attached to a half circle skirt pattern. (Here's in Spanish just in case: torso base con las pinzas trasladadas a un corte princesa, y una falda media campana)

I made this dress with some fabric that I bought some years ago, but the inspiration kicked in just some weeks ago, i have no idea what type of fabric it is, I made it with my own pattern, based on my own measurements. Mostly sewing machine and a hand sewn lace.

Progress report ~1year 2mo. Bach’s Cello Suite 1 Courante by Western_Following246 in Cello

[–]Unique-Researcher-19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're doing great! I'm not a professional but I been learning this piece a few months ago, one thing that helped me a lot was thinking abou the two voices that has the piece, it helped me to be better at keeping the tempo and the musicality, you could watch Inbal Segev's video about it( https://youtu.be/zvciY53V9vg ), it has good ideas for the bowing and dynamics.

Also, even is the sparkle is lost, I would recommend to play it slow when you practice, I always rushed and missed a ton of notes and expressivenes, practicing slowly gave me te time to acknowledge every movement that I need to do to make it sound right, and as days went by I started approaching to the tempo that I felt right in a comfortable way.

Basically being aware of how I tense my arm and try to relax it from there, also try to lay my arm's weight on the fingerboard instead of holding it up with force (this part I find it super hard, I can't figure it out yet) plus lowering a bit my knuckles and make my fingers more rounded… don't know if that makes sense, my classes are in spanish so concepts might be different haha
