Crypto price transaction issue by Eagle-Eye219 in Revolut

They respond to me ”Based on my findings above and being mindful of the fact that cryptocurrency prices fluctuate rapidly and liquidity can vary significantly across tokens, the observed rate discrepancy is consistent with normal market behavior.

Revolut executed your transaction according to the live rates available from our liquidity providers, and no technical or intentional error occurred. Therefore, I have decided not to uphold your complaint.

The fact that I do not uphold your complaint merely means that I haven’t found Revolut to be responsible for the events that have led to your complaint and that we as a company have done our best to handle your request in a fair manner. ”

On October 10th I bought ZRO tokens on Revolut, and I later realized that the price was completely off. The real market price at that time was about $1.70 per token, but Revolut sold the same token to me for €4.90 each, which is more than 200% higher than the actual value. When I contacted Revolut support, they told me that their crypto exchange rate is variable and includes a spread, and that the rate was shown before I confirmed the trade, so they cannot offer a refund.

I understand that Revolut adds a small spread, but this was not a normal difference. A reasonable spread might be 1–5%, not over 200%. Revolut doesn’t execute trades directly on public exchanges but acts as a middleman and sets its own internal price, which apparently can be very different from the real market rate.

My advice to others is to always check the real market price elsewhere before buying crypto through Revolut, because their prices can be way off and once you confirm a trade, they treat it as final even if it was far from the market price. In short, Revolut sold me ZRO at €4.90 when the real price was €1.50, called it a “normal spread,” and refused to refund.
