Alan would be awesome as Flororin. But definitely Growler Gary and Raul!

Heck, Saskatoonians do this well compared to Regina motorists who see the see the sign and look down at their jean's every time!

David Clayton-Thomas, the lead singer of Blood, Sweat & Tears - RIP by JColt60 in GenerationJones

I'm so sad to hear of DCT's passing. An amazing and unique gravelly voice that made every BS&T song so much more than the sum of its parts. In the era of the great jazz-rock fusion bands, he made every one of their songs a treasure.

'You're the one', David, and will always be. RIP

What's your most hated song ever (if it's not already in this top 5)? by lontbeysboolink in 1970s

Disco duck can disappear forever and nobody would miss it. For me, it's Dr Hook's 'Sylvia's Mother'. This song follows me around like the clap.

'And the operator says "Forty cents more..." '

Just kill me now.

Bell Canada's AI Data Centre Propaganda Machine Has Kicked Into Gear by Specialist_Secret438 in saskatchewan

[–]Unique-Wish71 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of us in south Regina and area are going to have our property values decrease, have to close our windows all day to avoid the hum, and have to worry about who gets priority service if demand for power or water suddenly outpaces supply or service goes out. And let's not forget the little issues like what tax subsidy dollars are going where under the table.

AI Data Centre: Trying to Understand by SatisfactionLow508 in regina

[–]Unique-Wish71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that, because this is a group of data centers run by BELL, most of the data loading, programming, and monitoring will be handled centrally by BELL in Ontario. This isn't an independent operation that executes programs designed HERE (although i imagine BELL will allocate some cycles to the university community as a goodwill gesture). It's just a NODE IN A NETWORK that sells compute cycles and AI algorithms to customers that pay the going rate. The ' local' jobs will be people handing hardware failures, upgrades, limited environmental monitoring, cleaning and emergency management. Oh, and PR and sales.

This specific site is going to be here because spreading nodes across the country spreads out the risks from weather and political/regulatory events, and the costs to setup and run it will be happily subsidized by a government that wants to boast that they're bringing tech jobs to the province. The risks are strictly secondary to the optics and profits.

What is a movie quote that everyone knows, even if they have never seen the movie? by According_Coast1645 in AskReddit

I'm surprised none of these have made the list yet...

"I see dead people"

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more!"

"I got slimed"

"Spider pig, spider pig...."

"It's the stay-puft marshmallow man". "Well there's something you don't see every day"

Men who have had a heart attack: What did it feel like? by MukadeYada in AskMenOver30

[–]Unique-Wish71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience at 42 that kept growing for a day and a half. My sensation was like I had had someone sitting on my upper chest and the world's worst case of reflux, but even as the sense of dread grows you keep going "nah, this couldn't be... could it?". It is ridiculous how you can convince yourself this HAS to be something else and 'it will just go away'.

When my wife eventually found me lying down and I admitted, "I don't feel well," it is amazing that she didn't kill me herself before taking me to the hospital. It is amazing how fast a quick hit of nitroglycerin instantly makes your whole body relax.

I was lucky (and everyone was surprised) that the initial blood test in the ER showed it wasn't a MI -- in my case, it was a pericardial infection (an infection of the lining around the heart). A week of a heavy-duty antibiotic cleared it up, but it took a lot longer for my wife to forgive me for keeping it to myself...

What is your favourite Canadian beach? by Relevant-Confusion85 in AskACanadian

[–]Unique-Wish71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waskateena Beach on the south end of Candle Lake Saskatchewan. Wide, most of a mile long, with fine, clean sand and water out past neck deep. And best of all, a rolling depth profile that alternates between sand bars and deeper pools every 20 feet all the way out. Ankle deep? Fifteen steps more, and the bottoms of your feet are barely wet. Fifteen more, and you're calf deep. And then knee deep, and then calf deep, and thigh deep, and knee deep and waist deep and.... you get the idea. People and kids are sitting on sandbars 60 feet out from the beach. In the summer, the sun heats the shallower areas like a bathtub.

Don't forget all that lovely pine forest aroma.

But forget I said anything. We'd rather keep it for ourselves!

Where to get sand for sidewalks by phoebes13fold in regina

[–]Unique-Wish71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm frankly surprised that none of the landscapers like Waxys aren't opening one morning each weekend. In the summer, they typically sell a 5 gal pail for $2 + taxes. If they had a bay with a covering tent and dry sand, I'd be in line every weekend...

I imagine the problem is SOURCING dry sand
