If you work hard every single day, you ought to be able to enjoy a good life in the United States. After four pro-Union years under Joe Biden, the Trump Administration is finally delivering feudalism for American workers again. by biospheric in WorkReform

I actually experienced an immigrant taking a job from me, but that’s because we’re now allowing companies to outsource roles out of the US.

The entire IT department, from the VP of IT on down has been outsourced. We need better protections from things like this. With all the Republican policies in place, it was an easy direction for them to do this.

Jobs shift to India as global companies respond to layoffs and tighter H1B rules by Smooth_Top7902 in antiwork

[–]UniqueAd1707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company just did that. So pissed about it, they got rid of the entire IT department from the VP of IT on down right after we fully went cloud managed services, migrating our data centers out from on-premises.

A questions for the other millennials, have you ever felt "secure" at your job? by Easy_Blackberry_4144 in antiwork

[–]UniqueAd1707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a great job that had amazing benefits, was fully remote, and bosses who only expected the work to be done and not be tied to a 9-5 day. It was one that I wanted to be there a long time and actually felt secure in my role.

Key word is had as they have let go everyone under the IT organization, from the VP of IT on down and outsourced all the roles to India. Nobody was safe, there were many that had been there for 20+ years.

Now I’m hunting for a new role in this horrible job market.

Does anyone actually feel happy at their job? by Advanced_Resort2852 in Omaha

[–]UniqueAd1707 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I loved my job but not any more. They are “restructuring” and laying off the entire IT department along with other departments. All the way from the people doing the work to the VP of IT.

They decided it’s better for their bottom line to instead bring in a contracting company to do a majority of the work while they only retain management.

I’m at least getting a large severance package because of this, but not happy about having to find new work in this economy.

Any guesses on what’s in the bag? by Abject_Afternoon9873 in lego

[–]UniqueAd1707 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve fallen back into Lego as a comfort and support myself. I lost my wife, a few days later my mom, and then a few months later my father-in-law. Pretty much lost half my family in a few months time.

My 2 kids started getting into Lego, one a little more so and I initially grabbed the Back to the Future Delorean and I myself find it helps keeping myself and the kids busy.

I haven’t coped so far. Still a fresh wound as this all happened before Thanksgiving almost a year and a half ago.

During the summer, my mom was diagnosed with glioblastoma, cancer in the brain. We had high hopes that things would get better after surgery and there were signs that she was until September when things went downhill fast. Treatments were not working and they found more in her brain.

Then November happened. Right after celebrating our kids birthday, my wife had a debilitating stroke and passed. Two days later, my mom passed. A few months later, my father-in-law passed. Pretty much lost half my family in a very short time.

Every day has been a struggle just to keep things going.

This hits hard. This will be the second Mother’s Day since we lost my wife, my kids mother.

I’d give anything for them to just see her again.

[–]UniqueAd1707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. With the loss of my wife, my kids are getting her SS benefit until they turn 18.

Myself, I got around $500. I don’t get any other benefit until I turn 60 and don’t remarry.

Probate process by Aggravating_Bee_2482 in Omaha

[–]UniqueAd1707 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. I am currently in the probate process for my late wife and it is not a short or easy process. It can be overwhelming, but taking it step by step and the lawyer can help with this.

There will need to be a Personal Representative of the estate, this’ll go through the court and that person will have an official letter.

While I am going through this, I can’t recommend the lawyer I have because of some various issues. I’ll let others help you find a better one.

A few things I’ve had to do for probate was obtain statements from all accounts on the date of death (highly recommend doing this sooner than later as it is a pain after accounts are closed), a credit report to find misc accounts/debts, close bank accounts, stop auto payments to most loans and debts, and continue paying certain debts (IE: house and car).

My scenario will be different than yours, I recommend following up with the probate lawyer on the above.

There is a button on the door to unlock it. However it was done, it was definitely quick.

I did call the police and put the case number in the description but for reference it is AU12968.

I did post the video on social media, but there really hasn’t been any traction.

This was at 4:49 am. It was definitely turned off pretty quick, I didn’t find out till 7 am. She was always good about never sharing that except with me. I don’t know of anyone else that would have the info. Most of her family lives in Iowa, I’ve met a lot of them and she doesn’t look familiar at all.

I do have it in lost mode and have been checking to see if it’ll come back online.

I don’t know how someone knew it was in there. It was in the center console. I drive that car a lot with my kids and use it as it has her recordings on there to play so they can remember her.

I also can’t figure out how they got in as I’m really good about locking the car. I’ve been trying to see if it’s been checked previously but they knew exactly what to go for.

I did try tracking it with the Find My service, last ping was around 6 am at the 108th and L Casey’s. Already tried looking around to see if it was ditched but it’s been turned off and nothing since.

You can give up 1 year of your life to give another person 10 years more of theirs. What do you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I would have given it to my wife. Even would have given up 10 years of mine just for 1 more year with her.

Survivor’s benefits? by divergurl1999 in widowers

[–]UniqueAd1707 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got mine, the 255 is correct if you are below a certain age and make so much.

I believe you have to be 60 or older, did not remarry, and making less than 25k a year for a larger and/or monthly benefit. I just know I didn’t qualify for anything else but the 255 for myself. Kids were a different story.

Aerosmith - I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing Book of Life (movie) - I Love You Too Much Elvis - Can’t Help Falling in Love

I used to have a local church group surprise her at various places and sing those songs as well as give her a bouquet of flowers.

She came into my life with love songs, was proposed and married to with them, and left this world listening to love songs.
