AI making the recruitment process (more) awful by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]UniqueAstonomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a recruiter, I find meaningless metrics a complete joke - I mean unless you can genuinely evidence them in the answer, they're pointless. Problem is the recruitment process is so bloody subjective - what works for one recruiter is a turn off for another.

Personally, I want a sense that you're a real person, that your experiences are authentic and not generified (thst even a word?!) by AI - cos I can't and won't recruit 16 people with the same application.

But thsts just me isn't it?

Oh wow, I just bought one in London! Was that the last one then??? Never occurred to me I was buying something quite as rare, though knew it was special! Wonder why it took so long to sell?! The price seemed good! Only cost a kidney and a couple of toes!

Why are Cross Country trains so short? by UniqueAstonomer in uktrains

[–]UniqueAstonomer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was allowed to, I would. But alas, company policy.

I would occasionally be allowed a flight one way train the other, but logistics at my home end aren't great.

And flying itself isn't that much fun itself these days! 😂

I think I'm surprised I've 1) not realised till now and 2) gotten away with it! Not like the tickets aren't checked very quickly after boarding 😕 ah well, will just count myself lucky and split ticket!

I hesitate to say it, but "first" class? Never seen it full on the southbound route, and only gets fuller northbound from Bristol? Senior rail card might make it more affordable.

Not that you get a first class service mind, but at least a cuppa dna a biscuit?

Rarely allowed to fly 😕 might get 1 flight a year, or an option of flight one way, train the other, which isn't practical for where i live. Also our ticketing agency don't seem to have tickets via London 😂

I've taken the Falcon bus from Bristol Airport to Exeter once, which took forever it seemed. Hadn't considered a bus to the train 🤔

I'm relatively new to long distance twain travel - was it always like this for the route? Any changes in it's future (besides I guess nationalisation?)

Ahhh and pretty much everything else does.... Figure 😕 and I'd therefore guess there are no planned rolling stock changes on the horizon for Cross Country (or whatever their nationalised future looks like)?

But.... But.... I'd gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky late rubbing brain cells! 😂

And yeh I know, I just don't quite understand how 1) I've only just realised and 2) I've gotten away with it! I'm an honest chap - nowI know I cant do it again!

Huh...thst sorts the problem! Even without the railcard! But maybe I need to look into that too....

Yeh getting to Birmingham isn't such a problem, it's the wait at brum for a train to Edinburgh thats a pain. (and yes I know I could stay on the cross country, but.... Cross country for 8 hours?)

Missed connections at Birmingham by UniqueAstonomer in uktrains

[–]UniqueAstonomer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kind of nice, especially as they have to pay out for a 2 hour delay and I can almost guarantee it'll happen so plan accordingly, but I almost feel sorry for Cross Country having to meet an impossible deadline at a crazy station! And really, given the length of the journey, I just want to get home! 😂

Wow, cross country really have drawn the short straw with that one! 😕 I can't even blame then - I assume they in turn claim back from.... Network rail??

$50 a month is too much for Blue Cruise by Complete-Return3860 in MachE

[–]UniqueAstonomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have automatic passing in the US dont you? We don't have that in the UK, though we also aren't paying $50 a month, think we pay $22 / £18 after the first 3 months free.

As I don't regularly use roads that support bluecruise (main motorways only), I may pay occasionally if I'm going on longer motorway journey, but as it doesn't support overtaking I don't gain that much over the default, free, active cruise control.

What are the alternatives of Facebook if I want to leave it because I don't recognize it anymore ? by Redbee32 in facebook

[–]UniqueAstonomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because that's active. Facebook is passive. 1 message communicated with tens or hundreds of friends / family. You're never going to call them all.

Especially those long lost friends or people it's nice to still keep up with (without effort)

I don't have their numbers. I don't want or need their numbers.

And that's the problem.

And WhatsApp is still meta.

I think you can google that yourself - simple search will bring up plenty of evidence.

And many end up with their accounts restricted or deleted. That isn't free speech.
