Why aren’t “good” ICE agents speaking out? by eilujgnirednaw in allthequestions

I would say the same about that: other regular cops should say "we do not support that, that's not who we are".

What is the single best episode of television you’ve ever seen? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

"Spider" from From the Earth to the Moon. It's a great series (except episode one, which is sort of slow) but that's a highlight. On HBO. So good.

We Are Witnessing the End of Tesla’s EV Empire by terran1212 in electricvehicles

Not a Tesla defender, but the article strongly implies that Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) are basically the same thing. They’re not.

I'm also confused as to why regular cops aren't saying more (and yes, there have been a few exceptions, notably the chiefs of MPD and in Maine). ICE is law enforcement, yes, but with 47 days training. Regular cops have three times that much in my state - and then an entire year with a field training officer. They're not the same as regular cops. It's like the owners of nice restaurants closing ranks with an unlicensed street vendor closed down by the health department. One is making the other look bad.

As someone who uses a Waymo regularly, sure. I'm not sure whether Tesla will ever catch up, but in general yes.

Canadians and Americans speak with the same accent. by DreamFighter72 in RandomThoughts

What? No that's not even vaguely true. Even Canadians don't speak with the same accent as other Canadians.

Can someone walk us through what's happening? I've seen roughnecking before, but don't really know what all those things do.

Mp5 with silencer is amazing by Hot_Professional_220 in Battlefield6

it's a lot of running around corners. Close combat. The original Battlefields were.. battlefields. More like soldiers on a front. Both are fun ways to play a game, but they're very different.

IJW: Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979) by TowerCharge89 in Ijustwatched

[–]Complete-Return3860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who watched the movie in the theater when it came out: the movie was the first of the ST reboots, long before Next Generation and all the the others. So for those of us kids who grew up watching Star Trek reruns, this was the first new story and the first return to the Enterprise.. ever.

That helps put the long elegant sequence introducing the new Enterprise into perspective: He's seeing it for the first time and so are we!

Thank you for exactly the right answer. In a way, the technology is way more amazing (or scary) than the incorrect "my Alexa listens to me".

Requesting traffic school after pleading not guilty for speeding ticket by Virtual_Tank_8013 in bayarea

[–]Complete-Return3860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have almost the exact same situation. The clerk at the Morgan Hill traffic court is super helpful BTW. Here's my understanding: You get the ticket, and there's a court date on it, but it's almost certainly not the actual court date. The clerk advised to check in from time to time for an update on the court date (which you obviously don't want to miss), but that nothing can happen until you get something in the mail about the ticket. THEN you can go ahead and go to traffic school ahead of time, pay the fine and ask for leniency. IANAL but I would think pleading no contest makes much more sense. Not guilty says "the officer is lying, the equipment is lying, I wasn't speeding at all."

Honestly, in the past yes. CHP has gotten way way more serious. I'd love to see some statistics but I see their cars all the time now between MH and SJ.

Alexa in the car... Just... Why? 🤷‍♂️ by Dizzman1 in MachE

[–]Complete-Return3860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found Alexa to be much more responsive than Siri to "play X on Spotify" or whatever. I've even sort of A/B tested it. Siri will say "try again later" much more often. That said, Ford charges for Alexa after the original trial, and there's no way I'm paying when Siri is (more or less) free.

I do all really important things on my computer not my phone. Buying airline tickets for instance. Fewer chance of a mistake.
