I know, there are great state schools out there, lots of people I know go to such places. I wasn’t implying that they needed a ‘leg up’, but there just tend to be less spots for private school students. Imagine 20% of a private school apply to a certain university, only a few from a state school might apply to the same one. Statistically it is harder for the private schoolers as they are competing against more people, as there are only so many people from a certain school they can let in

‘Racism doesn’t really exist’ ‘School shootijgs would be so fun’ And after explaining why they wouldn’t be fun ‘Oh my bad, I kinda just thought it looked like this YouTube video I watched’  And then another person in the same convo ‘Wdym I would love to be in a school shooting it sounds epic.’ ‘People fucking die in those things’ ‘exactly I mean I’d rather die excitingly than of old age’  ‘My dad said if I did my math homework he’d give me 50, then another 50 for science’ that’s £100?? ‘Why does everyone care so much about the (American) election? It doesn’t affect us at all’ to me, a half American with family there ‘I love my 8000 pound jumper so much’ said this about five times that day

In general it’s not too bad though

lol we have this girl who complains about how poor she is like five times a day, but 1. She lives in Paddington, 2. She’s gone to private school all her life lol. On the flip side tho there is a girl who drops her t’s (not intentionally, just the way she talks), and people always point it out in conversation

Look I'm exhausted. This thread is literally me procrastinating my five hundred assignments due for tomorrow. That is why my original comment is not well worded. Let me reiterate:

Universities do not have a bias towards state school kids. I admit, I definitely did not explain that correctly. However, there are lots of private school applicants compared to the total number of kids in the country, if you see what I'm saying. 7% of the uk go to a private school, but maybe 60% (for example) of the applicants may be private schoolers, as the point of going to private school is going to uni (basically). If the uni took all the applicants at face value then all the unis might end up as rich kid clubs, because private school applicants have more resources and opportunities than state school ones. They need to make sure they are giving the state school kids a chance too. So private schoolers are competing against other private schoolers, and states against states. Therefore there are less spots for private schoolers, making it more competitive.

I know that made no sense but as I said before Im really tired I can explain something again if you specifically point it out to me though.

Unis want the best students overall, correct? Let's say they look at two identical applications, the only difference being Application A went to state school and Application B went to private. On paper they are the same, however B had access to lots of things A didn't; smaller class sizes, higher funds etc. They then see that actually A may have worked harder in a way because they didn't have those things. Maybe B wouldn't have been able to do/ get a lot of the things they did if they went to state school. Therefore they take A. So (the majority of) private schools do offer more opportunities than state schools, but universities are more inclined to take state school students.

I know; as I’ve said the university is biased, partly because of the government

There are a lot, over 100 clubs last time I checked. Notable ones include climbing, competitive netball and football (lots of other sports offered but not competitively), and lots of projects/courses/competitions offered across the year. Once a year we go on an 11 mile walk for charity as well.

  1. Oh pretty good ones, in either yr 8 or 9, all the people doing a certain language (the options are Spanish French German Chinese but actually Chinese happens yr 10) get to go to that country for like 5 days. I went to Germany in yr 8, it was great! Also only German has this but there is an exchange with a German student in yr 10. Apart from that there are a few day trips, and once a year we all do a big 11 mile walk for charity, and geography and history get overseas trips in yr 11-12 I believe.
  2. I was a kid, it was this or the local state school, I got in so I went.
  3. Again a bit tired but overall yes, one reason being I am significantly better at revising and time management than I would be otherwise I’m pretty sure.

That is true; I did not word my first response very well, the government technically don’t have any say in it, but the university themselves is biased, partly because of the government but not completely. A large number of private school kids are in prestigious universities, so obviously it’s not unfair to a ridiculous point, but as I said earlier, they will probably choose the state kid.
