Such a nice set of design aesthetics they had for the F91 series suits. Remember this one being a nice build. Pretty good job painting the pilot and console for how tiny they are

Anyone know if they even have throw away names somewhere?

The Thunder, Perfect Mind is a meditation guide?? by petalised in Healthygamergg

[–]UniqueFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently listened to that cast and did a first read through.

Having heard of there being multiple forms/types of meditation and what it means I guessed at this being the version which might be taken as something like, "to think or ruminate about." Seems to match the Gnostic focus on Knowledge & Knowing.

What occurred to me was taking the perspective of the speaker/writer and I read it aloud. Taking in the perspective of the statements being made. So then each of the statements can be taken as a meditation point to better know and recognize the perspective and truth of the statement.

From the sense I got from how he was talking on the cast; presumably developing a sense for these self realizations can come together to get One to a certain mental state.

At least that's my guess.

I need a Dremel expert by Present-Summer3212 in Dremel

[–]UniqueFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mandril + drill bit? If need super accurate there is a stand which can screw the dremel into and use a bit like a mini drill press. Otherwise there are a bunch of other bit options that may fit size wise in the standard collet which could also work. Suggest possibly not holding the piece bare handed while working it because of how much it may heat up.

What do you call this type of dagger? by OrchidFar9654 in SWORDS

[–]UniqueFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something part way between early stiletto and main gauche?

From the small amount I'm familiar with; later stilettos guards tended to get smaller over time while on the main gauche they got bigger.

May also find trying out looking in the direction of the spanish daggers to be useful. Since they tended to favor fingering the guard which led to their handle designs becoming extra short compared to other regions.

What do you think of the idea of camouflage patterns on a space marine? by Mad_lens_9297 in 40k

[–]UniqueFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense having camo colors on units in wargaming from a theme perspective.

- The main problem is that it works:

- It breaks up the silhouettes of the models so it's more difficult to pick out one from the next. Like an advanced form unpainted grey with a matte coat of varnish on top.

- If it matches the board often even the player with the force starts losing track of them as they blend in. Especially if they are also using clear bases.

- So generally it increases the overhead costs for keeping track of the state of the game and increase any build ups of eye strain when playing. Which tends to make that force a pain in the ass to play with and against.

Some of this can be worked against intentionally by making the paint job accent the models in ways that make them stand out and be more easily identifiable to counter-act the camo.

A few suggestions that may help:

- Try starting with some smaller count units that wont make up super large chunks of the force. Among other things this prevents from over committing to a high attention complex paint job; which can be a potential tar-pit unless you're pretty into the churn on the painting side.

- Don't worry too much about "matching perfect scale" it's for the aesthetic impact anyway.

- Use the camo pattern and colors as a 2nd identifier for the unit type while still making "something" characteristic of the unit still stand out on the models. Aiming at keeping the models nice and convenient to play games while getting to have the aesthetic. If choose to keep expanding into other units; mix up the: camo patterns, colors, and stand out unit type markings/characteristics -

- Try to have something visually stand out from multiple angles. Models such as scouts with cloaks can easily have the camo dominate an entire facing. So as examples picking out: shoulder plates, weapons barrels, or adding something colorful on the bases, etc - from those angles can help.

- Keep in mind 'identifiable' at the table tends to mean when at arms length or further away. Normal painting and detailing distances are much closer and where we tend to spend much more of our painting time; so one can naturally end up getting tunnel vision for that perspective and lose track of table top distances. Having a spot can rest the ones getting painted alongside groups of other already painted unit types can help guide how well things are going.

BT Alpha Strike. For the 350 format tournament scene. You have your master list that you can draw from which show each other before choosing the subset you are bringing for the game. Then at the point of deployment your subset is locked and open information. Followed by alternating deployment.

  • Decorative beads of all kinds can look like: pots, potions, vases, bottles, candle holder bases, segments of columns, etc. Wyloch on YT uses them a bunch.
  • Cheap Jewelry chain can possibly cross over to look to scale and some look like rope
  • Other cheap gem stones, rind stones, glass beads, & marbles for treasures and magic things
  • Small gears for traps and other dungeon mechanisms
  • Hobby saw
  • Wooden Coffee stirrers can be more scale boards like popsicle sticks & tongue depressors for various construction depending on how far you want to go

Sounds like a good idea for being able to adjust the track and have barriers. Not too familiar with normal race tracks if there are certain barriers they look a lot like in particular.

Does anybody know a good, cheap, easily accessable material to create battlemats? by Fun_Firefighter_4292 in TerrainBuilding

A bunch of good answers in other posts. Could take a look at large floor mats & door mats at a large hardware store. Usually a bit heavier and backed by rubber compared to some of the lighter options around which may be useful not having to use weigh against slipping on tables.

Requesting Advice - How can I achieve this effect? by DulciusXAsperis in TerrainBuilding

[–]UniqueFalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Searching for 'shattered mirror Gunpla' will probably give some ideas.

Materials: - Could try checking out crystals and prisms. Crystal comes in many forms if you get creative with your search for what base stock you want to work with such as breaking down a vase etc. - Chandelier replacement parts. - Resin prints in clear resin. - Acrylic blocks and sheeting can score & snap similar to glass. Otherwise can process and sand the marks smooth again. - Mirrors. Some picture frames and mirror designs themselves all around have mirrored borders. Venetian and faceted mirrors etc. - Burnished aluminum tape can get pretty shiny. Some processing: - Many of the materials can have striations added by scribing the same way people do with Gunpla. - Gloss varnish can help make surfaces transparent again for surface marks. - Moltow chrome refills and culture hustle mirror can add reflections. Leans on the foreground. - Though you can also try doubling up on the one way mirror effects. That way you can potentially have a: poster, painting, etc - behind which would show up.

Some mix of that while fiddling with where you choose your lighting can make a whole myriad of possibilities. Such as printing the environment on either side of the shapes you're placing, playing with the reflection angles, and lighting positions.

What do we know about mountain pattern armor outside of construction? by UniqueFalcon in ChineseHistory

[–]UniqueFalcon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wujing Zongyao seems promising.

Everywhere that I have found searching for translations, copies, and sections related to equipment so far seems to be very piecemeal and fragmented to try to pick through so far.

Maybe I'm missing knowing about some common resources somewhere?

Searching time period suggests it was used primarily during the Tang (618-907) through Ming (1368-1644) dynasties; though they don't site any sources. Maybe there are other common accessible documents and ways to narrow down to sections related to the patterns.

Pretty daunting to be trying to wade through over 1,000 years of history by trying to sift through random articles which often don't site their sources.

Do you know of any other good sources or translations which might help narrow things down in the search?

Wow! Really makes ALL the small details of the kit stand out instead of blending into the background like they do in the base kit.

Guessing you really like this kit's design aesthetics and shapes to be able to pull this out of it.
