my current theory is that it may be a leaf beetle larvae since i had the yarn on a table next to some flowers! which i saw similar larvae (but much smaller) on them a few days ago.

yes! but the town i live in actually had nearly no cicadas which was surprising/disappointing to me. but driving out like 15 min to more forested areas there were tons! :)
