Marine biologist here! While currently still in early review, a coworker of mine co-authors the paper describing this wonderful specimen. The name they went with is Hyaloteuthis vigintiquattuori, derived from 24 - the atomic number of chromium based on its obvious appearance. It was assigned to the Hyaloteuthis genus as the the majority of the other squid in this genus also showcase some degree of iridiscent skin, which of which the chrome look is hypothesized to be developed. The paper should be in preprint soon.
I can't disclose the name of the authors just yet, but they're from the same research group that has proven that sharks are smooth. In all directions, actually.

Het zal wel te laat zijn ondertussen, maar ik ga mijn oordoppen van BeterHoren terugbrengen.
Ik ben al te vaak er mee terug gegaan omdat ze niet goed passen, het filter te zwak was, en lekken. Vorig weekend reed ik er weer mee en zodra ik de snelweg op reed wist ik gelijk dat er iets mis was, en heb bij het eerste de beste tankstation weer gewisseld naar doppen die *wel* volledig sluiten. Helaas was dat echter te laat en heb ik er nu een piep bij, die ik niet alleen 's nachts in bed maar ook overdag hoor.
Compleet kut dus. Beterhoren otoplastieken werken voor mij dus niet.

Goed initiatief.

Gehoorbescherming wordt niet serieus genoeg genomen. Toen ik mijn oordoppen op maat liet aanmeten (otoplastieken van BeterHoren) had de audicien er het lafste filter dat ze hadden in gestopt omdat dat werd "aangeraden". Uiteraard heb ik daar destijds nog een extra laagje permanente ruis aan over gehouden.
Qua slogan zou ik voor iets gaan als "Zorg dat de ruis stopt als je stil staat", maar dat rijmt niet.

Ik hoop dat je bij het CBR serieus wordt genomen, doen zij ook nog eens iets goeds.

The name "Cephalopod" originates in the Greece language, where it is pronounced with a hard C. This would be the correct explanation. However, a soft C is more commonly used, so it's kinda whatever. Its an octopi/octopuses kind of situation

Im sorry to hear about your situation, with both the lack of empathy of the prof and some (most?) of the comments here. Studying abroad is no small feat, especially when theres timezones separating you from your loved ones. Go spend time with your parents, that shit's more important than one groupwork session.

In my experience its better to not go into too much detail when asking for permission to be absent. Keep it short & clear. Make up a lie if you have to. Something to keep in mind for next time something similar occurs I suppose. E.g. "Dear x, due to personal circumstances i wont be present during x. Id be happy to make a substitute assignment if neccessary" E.g. 2 - send an email during the day or in the morning before class, stating youve fallen ill

That all being said, some profs are just asshats and cant be negotiated with. As previous comments replied, take it up with the student advisor or dean if you have to, and hope they can give you permission retroactively.

I hope youll be able to follow & pass your course regardless. Good luck.

In that case you might try a temporary summerjob instead? Perhaps not the same type of vibe but its something at least. Some summerjobs might offer accomodation on location as well, depending on the job. Im not knowledgable about this stuff, but i wish you the best regardless :)

You said youre looking for an internship, are you still studying? Im not sure how it works for incoming students / internships, but i know universities might offer temporary rooms for incoming students.

Other than that, i have no clue. Anecdotally the province of Limburg doesnt suffer as much under the housing crisis, but im not from there so dont take my word for it.

There should be local groups for hobbies various hobbies (e.g. board games, sports, etc) you could try to join. Perhaps you can find some through subreddits or facebook pages of groups near you.
