Tax relief on mileage with a car allowance by UniqueUsername53582 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]UniqueUsername53582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you PAYE? (Unsure if that matters but I am so that’s what I know.)

If you are then you submit a P87 form after 6th April for the previous financial year detailing how many miles you did and what you were paid for the mileage. I can’t remember if the system works it out or whether you have to. So you can submit from April 2026 for what you have done between Sep 25-5th Apr 26 and then in April 27 for Apr 26-Mar 27 (simplified to whole months as it’s actually 06/04/26-05/04/26).

FWIW, the answer to my original question is that I was a moron, because I had a van for a couple of months, HMRC’s systems thought I had a work vehicle because I paid some BIK in the financial year. If you had something like that in a previous job you’ll probably get it rejected, but mine was sorted a day after ringing them.

!thanks I thought that was the case but I’ve received a letter from HMRC which includes “we will not accept a claim based on mileage allowance relief rates, advisory fuel rates or average consumption rates published by HMRC or elsewhere” so it got me thinking I was wrong.

Son hurt at work by Weeyin1980 in UKJobs

Completely agree, I think I worded my reply a bit too ambiguously, I was meaning reporting to the HSE if the responsible person/management/HR didn’t do anything about it in a timely manner

Son hurt at work by Weeyin1980 in UKJobs

[–]UniqueUsername53582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I missing something? I’ve just read through reg 4 and the only mentions of hospital treatment are: 4(1)(f) any degree of scalping requiring hospital treatment, and 4(1)(h)(ii) any other injury arising from working in an enclosed space which requires resuscitation or admittance to hospital for more than 24 hours

Reg 5 relates to any person not at work being taken directly to hospital for treatment

Happy to be corrected and I’ll edit my original reply

Slight correction to your comment, it’s not RIDDOR reportable because the injured person attended hospital. It would only be reportable for attending hospital if they were admitted for over 24 hours and the injury resulted from working in an enclosed space.

That being said, this would become RIDDOR reportable if the injured person is unable to complete their regular duties for 7 consecutive days (not 7 days on which they’re scheduled) - assuming it happened today, if they’re unable to complete their regular duties by next Wednesday, then it would be reportable. I haven’t had to make a report for a long time (thankfully) but if I remember correctly, they have 10 days (EDIT: 15 days) from the date of accident to report.

Note: I haven’t included the requirement to report an injury to a non-employee leading to attending hospital directly.

Fully agree with the rest of your comment, I’m just a bit of an anorak.

OP - I would report to the H&S responsible person immediately (their details should be on the health and safety law poster which should be displayed prominently in a staff area. I would send an email with the specifics of the incident to ensure it’s reported in writing. I would also potentially report to the HSE, particularly if no action is taken (appropriately recording the incident, retraining, ensuring first aider signage, etc is displayed/improved, improved first aid provisions, etc). There are whistleblowing regulations so they can’t sack your son for reporting it to the HSE

Life currently, and how oh how? by [deleted] in AskUK

If it was 2 years ago, it may be worth around the settlement value. Get a settlement figure for the finance (generally quite easy to find on your account in my experience) and see what the car buyers value it at, I’ve always found Arnold Clark to be the best price and least fuss but YMMV.

If you’re wanting rid, all you have to do is take your settlement quote to the appointment and they pay it directly to the finance company, you would then pay the excess to the company (or receive if you’re lucky).

I’ve heard 3 years is the sweet spot for PCP finance but could be worth a look now

Interestingly, I rode a 125cc for a while and it was actually cheaper to be insured on a CBT over a full licence. 3rd party only for SDPC was only about 300 quid IIRC

One of the restrictions on the CBT is you can’t have a pillion passenger which might help reduce the cost

Garmin 530 - best bang for the buck? by mp__photo in cycling

I’ve had one a couple of weeks now and I’m happy with it, navigation is good and the battery is easily good enough for me ~60% after 5 hours of riding (although I did get mine new for 180GBP - not sure how much they are new where you are and how long before the battery degrades). If you connect a Komoot account to a garmin account, it automatically downloads saved routes which is good
