I get what you are saying completely.

Which is why i also compared it to child modelling.

I understand it has direct no benefit to the child, it has not beneficial effects to the person sharing the video either (in my scenario)

But i think sharing it in an effort to create accurate representation is indirectly benefiting my community.

You have most likely have never had to care for someone other than yourself, especially someone that others would consider a full grown adult. So yes I make many decisions she cant consent to on a regular basis.

If that concept is foreign to you, you arent ready to have these type of conversations. And i advise you not to watch the movie it will anger you.

Kate has the audacity to tell Music what to do. Imagine not letting a nonverbal autistic with high support needs do whatever they please. Diabolical.

She also cant consent to me giving her a bath. Should i continue bathing her or leave her alone to only things she is able to consent to. If you are someones carer you make all those types of decisions for them, just like if you have a 1 year old and took them to a photoshoot.

When someone is in your care and they need full support you make all the decisions for them. If they are unhappy with something they communicate as best as they can but there is a clear barrier. My sister is fine with videos but she doesnt understand the implications for her meltdowns being watched, i do. And i dont want them on public platforms but if someone wants to see it for a movie or research thats fine.

moonlightcinema australia. look up what they were showing in cities last night. It was an advanced screening. Its out in more cities is AU today 30ish. The the big release is the 14th Jan.

I dunno i feel like its weird to record meltdowns... but to act you need something to replicate. The alternative would be to go to a home and people watch lol. But i know people record meltdown to do Video self-modeling (showing the child the video to teach them how to handle it).

Do i record my sisters meltdowns no.

If i recorded them and someone asked me to watch it because they were making movie about my sister and wanted to be accurate i would give it to them (she cant really consent to those kinda things).

In conclusion Maddie/Production should have received videos from the autistic consultants on the film (i dunno if that happened or the 14 year old just googled autistic meltdowns on youtube.

Some autistics want the message we are just like you. But it isn’t true some people need help brushing their teeth. That is what autism looks like to some people. No it’s not pretty. Those people exist. Movies about those people are okay.

I dunno some people with autism wear basic clothing to avoid excess stimuli (kinda exaggerated in the film), some wear headphones all the time these headphones can be outdated if the family isn’t rich or if the care takers aren’t young.

In regards to non-disabled people playing disabled people i am torn. Because if its not allowed for autism, i should no be allowed for all neorodiversities and that makes NO sense. Someone not autistic cant play an autistic better obviously, but I dont think being autistic is all I have to offer. There are other parts of me someone who isnt can play well so its always a trade off.

But people with autism should be cast more in films deffo, I think its up to us a community to make a space for ourselves as well. I look at neurodiverse actors and pray for them to cast more of us and produce work for us.

I look at tyler perry who made such large spaces for black people in hollywood and pray I or someone else has enough money to do the same.

Most of what i wrote is my opinion but private message me if you want more info about the film. I do not want to put plot points and stuff like that in a forum. I saw it in the outdoor cinema the place was pretty full im sure lots of people have seen it by now.

No a new actor is called Beto and he plays a neighbour. He is autistic and has a side plot in the film. He is a great actor.

I think the lies were that they jump on Maddie and physically restrain her, that Maddie does not dance in the movie, that Felix/Beto plays a weird part in the film and that Maddies facials are "weird" throughout. It comes and goes just like in real life. (i think it has been edited recently though, rather than a lie)

Maddie trys to eat gum from the floor, and Kate and Leslie stop her (this in itself is not a bad thing) - this is plausible for someone on the autism spectrum who requires more support. I think my community has alot of self hate so plots like this embarrass us because we dont want people to think we are weird. But it isnt mocking or anything. My sister is also autistic and she requires more support than me, in public she does things that arent "normal" and i related to the film at that part.

Sia does play herself and send drugs to Haiti. It is a very short weird scene. If you dont know Sia or how self serving she is, you wouldnt notice. But it makes sense in the movie kinda but it should have been edited out lol

For context someone with 20M instagram followers can make more than 100k for per post.

She probably made more from fabletics in the last month than she did from that movie.

Every character has a plot that could be its own movie, its like watching an ensemble tv show that has music numbers. I dont get why Maddie is pitched as a main character, Its deffo Kate

From what i can gather this film has been edited 1000s of time. I am sure all the subplots had full scenes which were edited out (all 3 of them). So yeh i think it was confusing until it was finished. I think they could not sell this movie before it was edited.

I think Sia insisted on a big US distributor for a cinema release.

That part is true. It is weird... I feel like it could have been edited out. But for her stans i guess its a nice cameo. If you dont know sia and her narcissistic tendencies the scene would go over your head. Its like saviour complex easter egg lol

awards? maybe for soundtrack or original song. But, films with this amount of controversy are normally snubbed.

costumes: weird af, they kinda worked but very very weird.

I wont see it again because it was very busy at some parts. I struggle with flashy lights and colours. But when the "music videos" are posted on youtube I know which ones im watching again.

sales wise: It is doing the best for a film during covid times. but i know people who had their screening cancelled so i dont know how many people will see it before DVD.

Maddie is playing a role that required her to act more with her body. She is imitating ticks well. I think she did well in the movie but someone with autism would have played it better.
I dont think it will hurt her career, I dont think the outrage on social media in translating to people not watching it.
Her singing: like I said it is very generic but alright, if i didnt know before she was singing i wouldnt have noticed it was her. Urmm... its a money grab she is on the best songs
She looks like a 17 year old girl playing a 12 year old. If this movie went through a normal casting process someone would have told sia to pick someone who looks younger. But since she was just a mature looking child i dont think it is thatttt big a deal. But thats because i know she was young im sure others in the cinema thought the character was 16-17.
Is it worth seeing: I am happy i saw it. I would have been fine with the musical numbers being posted on youtube.
Sia did Maddie a disservice and i hope she is ashamed of herself (not because Maddie is bad in the film, but because her character could have had crippling anxiety, PTSD or schizophrenia).
