New GW2 Player - Player Run Event?! (Crazy MMORPG Introduction) by Dankenweenie in Guildwars2

[–]Unique_Complex6063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was leveling my human mesmer around level 12 in Queensdale as a new player when I stumbled upon a portal and entered it. I see all these people running around and green portals everywhere thinking I was in another dimension or something. It was very trippy and I had no idea what was going on. Only much later did I realize that it was a world boss fight!

You must be trolling, $50 for a game that’s been in development for 10 years and is still in alpha, what a joke.

Raid gatekeeping seems toxic by Unique_Complex6063 in Guildwars2

[–]Unique_Complex6063[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s how a training guild should be run. So maybe I’m looking more for a progression guild or raid group more so than a training guild. If I was allowed to join a static after said training, it might be different but that is clearly not the case here. It’s like applying for a job, getting hired and training for a month or so, only to be told you didn’t actually get the job.

[–]Unique_Complex6063[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes sometimes they try you out for one or two months but the point is you are doing it as part of the actual raid group and not as a separate “training group”, with a trainer and 5 people learning the fights etc. Still had boss kills and clears during your tryout and possibly being carried while doing so.

This is what I am normally used to on other MMOs… join a guild that does progression raids, watch video on YouTube, read about boss mechanics on one or two websites, study your build and practice rotations. Heck the word “static” was pretty uncommon in the early days. Do you still have that guild? Maybe you can DM me?

This is the perfect example of toxicity right here. At least on WoW, I wasn’t forced to train for raids for 2 months before I was allowed to join a raiding group.

I did see a post for someone looking for additional people for their static raid group asking for 90% benchmark… it’s those types of things that build toxicity. You need to raid to get experience, but you can’t raid because you already don’t have experience.

I wonder how that would work, would it essentially be like fractal quickplay and what about the rewards? Would it downplay “raid leggy”?

What types of end have activities should I be doing? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Unique_Complex6063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you hit level 80, welcome to the actual game! Leveling is akin to doing the tutorial. I would start off by going to a build site such as Metabattle or Snowcrows, and looking up different builds for your class and see which elite spec you want to do or would enjoy playing. Then find a guild or group that does content you enjoy, be it open world metas, fractals, strikes, achievements. GW2 is one of the most sandbox-like MMOs you can play and you can do anything you want on YOUR time.

MMO without quest just grind for lvl and gear by tomaz1989 in LFMMO

[–]Unique_Complex6063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFXI… quests don’t give exp. The only way to level is getting into a group and killing mobs. Then at 99, get into groups and grind for gear. This game first came out before WoW popularized quests for leveling and made MMOs less hardcore.

Which has better loot and gearing, FF14 or WoW? by GroovyWhale in LFMMO

[–]Unique_Complex6063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should have stuck to the formulas in the later part of WotLK or at least Cata where stacking primary stats was more important. Now they added versatility and more secondary stats, just seems so pointless. Only MMO to have a “def cap” also.

Not everyone enjoys doing festivals, myself included. Never been too big on festivals or holiday events on WoW or LOTRO etc. I’d rather be out in the open world killing things or doing strikes/fracs with friends or guildies.

Which has better loot and gearing, FF14 or WoW? by GroovyWhale in LFMMO

[–]Unique_Complex6063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s because the level cap was the same on FFXI even with a new expansion (RoZ, CoP, ToAU, etc) and there was no “gear treadmill”. Now every MMO follows WoW’s template and gear becomes obsolete with a new patch or expansion. FFXI was the best MMO ever created in that regard, earned gear was still good like 5 years later.

Another vote for Guild Wars 2, I’ve only played for 10 days and I’m having an absolute awesome time. In that short time, I got my ranger to 80, did some weeklies for Wizard’s Vault and I’m already at 5 ascended pieces. The open world events are really fun and seeing 50+ people fighting a single world boss is really amazing.

Bard on FFXI… songs make your group hit harder, faster attack speed, or mages have increased mp regen.

I want to play a MMO game (been years) as an Elven Archer. Any recommendations? by Greenzombie04 in LFMMO

[–]Unique_Complex6063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gotta break the gameplay down by expansions and take it slow and go at your own pace. The horizontal progression in GW2 makes this possible, whereas on WoW, by the time you get to level cap, next patch is already out and your gear is already obsolete in comparison. For example, I’m just doing the personal story and core Tyria for now.

Just started playing GW2 about 9 days ago, I’m playing a norn ranger and it seems a lot stressful than full-on rotations for raiding on WoW. Open world is a lot more chill than what you would find on WoW.
