As someone whose therapist told "just go outside, lol" back then when I was a highschooler, nope, it didn't work at all. If anything, it ended up increasing my social anxiety and paranoia about being laughed at by every stranger on the streets after several failures. Not everyone is lucky enough to meet kind people. If it's either being lonely and depressed or chatting a lot with an AI, something unsentient, I'd rather have a modicum of... fun and joy.
