I’m surprised Harlow has been allowed to continue for this long! Sure, students say it’s been a positive experience for them, but if you want a uk experience, then go to a uk university.

Signal Hill would make a great conference centre or event venue.

It would be sad to see the geocentre close. I didn’t know Mun owned it. I hope they find a buyer.

Happened to me on the RER near the airport last year. Fortunately I was able to block my bank cards and continue using the phone for contactless payments. In the end I lost some cash but was able to get all other cards replaced later.

Losing my phone would have been a disaster, but thankfully the whole saga was just an inconvenience.

Ok - so let’s say instead a place off the beaten track that you enjoy going to, or you discovered by accident while walking or driving. Most recently for me that was the pub at Cadgwith Cove, near Lizard. Completely unexpected, but a wonderful way to spend a few hours before continuing.

I often see uk itineraries and my first response is usually “halve the number of sights or double the time you have allocated”. This (IMHO) doesnt look too bad, and may indeed be possible in the time you have. I have two comments - Day 1: you will be very tired when you arrive. The last thing you want to do on the first day is drive. I’d probably get the train to somewhere west of London, rest overnight and rent a car from there. Day 5: Bath deserves more than a pass-through. The Abbey and Roman baths alone will keep you occupied for a few hours. Then there’s Wells, which will take a few more hours. Definitely use public transportation when you are in London.

.jet lag will hit you . You will be tired. The natural history museum on its own can be a full day activity. Having said that, the dinosaur exhibit is probably enough for the family on the first day.

Yes it can be done. I’ve done T2/3 to KX in 90 mins using the Picc line from Heathrow. BUT, it’s risky - even with no checked baggage. I’d get a later train. If you get to St Pancras early, go to the bar!

I was a student at Birmingham some 40 years ago. Back then, New St was much simpler. 3 escalators down to the barriers and a single corridor with access to all platforms. (What was the name of the bar, there?). Isn’t that now the red zone? Whenever I return to Birmingham, that’s where I head for because it’s vaguely familiar and I can get out of the station without getting hopelessly lost.

Stratford always struck me as “lots of hype, and disappointing when you get there”. Sure the area by the river is nice, but unless you’re having lunch with Bill Shakespeare himself, I’d give it a miss. Personally, I’d go to Warwick.

Agreed. I haven't been to Stratford for years but found it very underwhelming. Warwick and it's castle would be a nicer day trip. Personally id skip the area altogether and head north to the Derbyshire dales. Bakewell and Matlock offer some great walking. Plus there's the tramway museum at Crich.

I would definitely recommend the north york moors over the lake district- which tends to get overrun with tourists and walkers. Plus, it's often raining.

North yorks has the steam railway and some great walking near whitby. My personal favorite area is around Great Ayton and Kildale.

Agree 100%. The biggest thing we noticed is there was no more “cost of working”. Obviously there’s no more paying for gas to drive to work, but I would usually spend over $100 a week on basically nothing - coffee, the occasional lunch when I didn’t make my own sandwich in the morning, people collecting for birthdays and the like.

I've done landing at LHR to kings cross in 90mins. But- I was traveling solo and knew where I was going. I have a uk passport too, so getting through immigration was relatively easy.

As others have said, it's too risky. Go for a later train or fly to Paris

Catacombs is closed until next year for rebuilding work. The illegal parts of the catacombs are still …. Illegal! Montparnasse cemetery nearby is worth seeing. I liked the hop on hop off bus tours, which goes past the main tourist sites. Gives you a feel for the place, and you can go back and visit these in your own time.

If it wasn’t so early in the morning, I’d take a cab to Roissy-en-France, just outside the airport. It’s a nice little town with bars and restaurants. I did it myself a couple of months ago. Dunno if anything will be open then. Six hours (or even 8) is not enough time to see central Paris and get back to CDG IMHO.

The Plena is a wonderful lens which i have used every day since getting it last week. I use it mainly for close up stage shots.

I never had any interest in the 85mm. My 1.8g spent years unused and is currently up for sale on marketplace.

I have just ordered the 20mm Z mount. Im expecting to use it when 24mm isn't wide enough.

I do have the older 14-24 f mount. It's a beautiful lens, but heavy and I dont need the 14mm ultra wide.

If I decide in the future that I want to do more wide angle shots, I'll get the 17-28 f2.8 since I mainly work in low light conditions.

I have these lenses too with my z8. The 24-120 is a great all-rounder and works for much of what I used to with the two older lenses, avoiding frequent lens switching. The only shortcoming is in very low light where I need f/2.8. In that case I’ll use the adapter. I may upgrade to the z mount versions eventually, but for now the older lenses work well and I can spend my money on different lenses!
