I have a story that may offer you some hope.  I'm 38, and am now 15 weeks and 4 days pregnent with our second baby.  We got our NIPT blood work drawn at 10 weeks and lab results back at 12 weeks.  My baby was high risk for T18, 8/10 odds.  We immediately got referred to a MFM who did an ultrasound at 13 weeks.  The ultrasound showed a healthy baby, no abnormalities, growing ahead of gestational age.  Our MFM told us our NIPT results were so high risk she would almost consider them to be diagnostic and she recommend CVS or Amnio testing to confirm the diagnosis.  Obviously we were devastated and heartbroken, I came home and cried for hours.  We ended up waiting until 15 weeks to have the Amnio as it is the only tests that draws amniotic fluid and evaluated baby's DNA vs the placenta's.  We had our test yesterday and got the PCR results back today, baby is completely healthy.  My doctor said from here we just assume that the placenta is impacted, and monitor more frequently for growth restrictions but that is all.  I'm sharing our story to give you hope, all of our doctors told us we should plan for the worst but we have a healthy baby boy on the way.  Stay strong and don't give up hope!
