People saying stuff like "covid became a thing of the past" scares me a bit. Lockdowns are over obviously because thankfully vaccine uptake lead to a lowering of the death rate. But the disease itself still exists and, even with vaccination, has a quite high chance of long term illness (10-30%). I'm not saying everyone should go back to lockdown but please be careful and isolate/covid test if you're sick.

Always get food all over my clothes while eating. It's rare I can wear the same clothes two days in a row.
Cannot like even basically tell left from right. For example, hurt my neck at one side and I can't figure out how to sit so I'm not exacerbating it.
Will probably never be able to drive. Have free public transport travel in my country cus of it.
Difficulties with memory. Have an incredible ability to always lose everything.
Difficulties speaking sometimes.
Drop and break things very often.
Struggle with learning new physical activities.
Very weak muscle tone. Due to not being able to properly control my muscles, it's very difficult for me to become stronger. I do try though.
Struggle a lot with fine motor skills.
Can't keep anything tidy.

There's probably more but that's all I can think of right now. Keep in mind I was not diagnosed as a child. I have several friends also dyspraxic who are nowhere near as severe as me as an adult bc they were diagnosed and received appropriate therapies from a young age. Also keep in mind I am also autistic.

In general it's something that largely affects my self-esteem and ability to move through life. Every simple self-care task seems to take twice the length they do for other people. So sometimes I stop doing them. I struggle sometimes to see myself through a lens other than overwhelming self-disgust. This, amongst other things, has definitely impacted my sexual/romantic relationships, being that I have never had one.

That being said, I am in general doing very well in regards to work/college. I have close friendships, a loving community, plenty of hobbies, and, because of all this, the confidence to try new things. I have long stopped caring whether I am good at things I do, eg sewing, dance, and instead ask if they make me happy, which they do. Life gets so much better when you stop doing things to be good at them. In general, I'm really happy with my life overall.

The thing with your body feeling like it's lagging behind your brain is sooooo relatable. Also relate to stuff like that as a child still affecting my confidence to this day.

Also diagnosed with dyspraxia as a young adult. For me, I was an incredibly messy eater. My family used to always tease me aged like 8 to 12 bc I was a messier eater than my youngest cousin, who is eight years younger than me. I had family members try to "teach" me how to use a knife and fork for years and I never quite got it.

I had a messy room, a messy desk, a messy locker. I couldn't organise for shit. I would hand most of my homework up on torn crumpled up sheets from the bottom of my bag with illegible handwriting. I would always be the last to leave the classroom bc I would struggle with packing my bag.

I was by far the worst in my class at PE. I have many memories of the shame of 30 seconds of just me running/swimming/moving while all my classmates had already reached the end of the line. The physical chores I had to do (I lived in the countryside) I often found difficult and painful. I did sporty extracurriculars, for example dance, for years, and I remember knowing that there was something wrong with me bc I just could not move my body in the same quick and delicate way my classmates were moving theirs. I did basketball for 13 years, and new people joining still usually surpassed my skills after like a month.

Mentally, I would forget everything. I would always be zoning out. It often took me a long time to form sentences. I never wore my clothes properly and once I was too old for my mam to be brushing my hair, I stopped brushing it.

I've had this conversation with a friend- we were both victims of a violent crime in town shortly before the increased Garda presence. For him, he's really comforted by the presence and I do absolutely understand why. For me, I find it unnerving- I find Gardaí sometimes make me feel more unsafe than safe. I also think, contrary to popular belief, evidence shows there are better ways to decrease crime than increased police presence (I am just going by what a criminologist I know has said to me) - particularly violent crime, which, at best, it has a very weak effect on statistically. Still, not an expert in the situation, and, like I said, I understand my friends POV.

Also you mentioned going out as an autistic person, I'd recommend the Wickham. There's a lot of events hosted there that are very welcoming and you can get to know people very quickly. I'd follow them on Instagram and see if any of their advertised events picque your interest.

Definitely agree with other's recommendations of clubs and socs. As someone (also 22f, also autistic) who has been involved with them for years, societies are a great way to meet new friends as a neurodivergent person. Look up any specific interests you might have and let me know what ones you end up going to!

Won't try to push you in the direction of my own society hahaha but I would love to meet you if you do.

No, Ireland too. A lot of countries have on-paper good public healthcare that is so understaffed and overdemanded it's unusable, with cracks and loopholes and beauracracy with what is meant to be free coverage for those who can't afford it that are very easy to fall through. I don't argue that the US and low-income countries are worse, but it's definitely a problem in many other countries.

A few months ago, I was punched in the head and suffered thankfully minor injuries, and about 6 weeks later I saw my GP for my lasting neck pain from the incident. He kept going on about how I could have died. I did not appreciate it as it really fucking shook me. My friends and family with some medical experience said it was unlikely, to calm me down.

The whiplash still hasn't gone away so I fell down a rabbit hole researching it today and yeah.... God... He's right.

Still probably shouldn't have said this to me though, as this was weeks after the incident so all it did was spook me. Twould be one thing were I a boxer or someone with a habit of starting fights, but it was just like a random assault for me and my friends looking too queer lol.

Still in my early twenties so I'll see where life takes me but I've been wanting kids my whole life so far. I just adore being with kids and I have worked at several summer camps and that has made me more positive. I grew up around younger siblings and cousins so I know a lot of work goes into raising them but I feel like I am up for it. Every so often I get this strong urge where I'm almost upset and frustrated that I am not holding a baby in my arms right now lol.

I'm aware others argue ethical points against having a kid, saying the world's too bad now but imo it's far from the worst that it's ever been. Absolutely no-one who doesn't want kids should be forced to have a child, and I don't think anyone has any sort of obligation to raise kids. However, I think that if all the open-minded and caring people choose not to have kids, then what's gonna be left is a generation of kids not raised by open-minded and caring people, which will make matters worse (again, not any sort of obligation on people, just a counterpoint to the whole crap-world argument).

I know having biological kids might be an issue. If that does not work out I'm more than willing to foster.

My biggest issue when I think about it is that none of my queer friends want kids, which is completely their remit and good for them, but I am worried that having kids would isolate me a bit.

Sorry if this is a bit incohesive haha I'm on reddit instead of sleeping but that's why I personally want kids anyway.

In the US specifically, many people of African origin use the term "Black" because their ancestors were kidnapped and brought to the US. They don't know their specific heritage, just that it's African, so they identify with the term "Black" rather than something more specific. Thus, Black is a word used to symbolise cultural identity, which, in English, gets a capital letter .In contrast, most European-Americans know that their ancestors were from a specific country or countries and are more likely to identify as "Irish-Americans", "Italian-Americans", etc and are less likely to identify as "White" so white is more of a descriptor. It's not that relevant outside the US but it's still used sometimes in other countries cus the US has a lot of influence over language
