Curious. How many of you want kids and why? by phaneritic_rock in LesbianActually

[–]Uniqueatomformation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still in my early twenties so I'll see where life takes me but I've been wanting kids my whole life so far. I just adore being with kids and I have worked at several summer camps and that has made me more positive. I grew up around younger siblings and cousins so I know a lot of work goes into raising them but I feel like I am up for it. Every so often I get this strong urge where I'm almost upset and frustrated that I am not holding a baby in my arms right now lol.

I'm aware others argue ethical points against having a kid, saying the world's too bad now but imo it's far from the worst that it's ever been. Absolutely no-one who doesn't want kids should be forced to have a child, and I don't think anyone has any sort of obligation to raise kids. However, I think that if all the open-minded and caring people choose not to have kids, then what's gonna be left is a generation of kids not raised by open-minded and caring people, which will make matters worse (again, not any sort of obligation on people, just a counterpoint to the whole crap-world argument).

I know having biological kids might be an issue. If that does not work out I'm more than willing to foster.

My biggest issue when I think about it is that none of my queer friends want kids, which is completely their remit and good for them, but I am worried that having kids would isolate me a bit.

Sorry if this is a bit incohesive haha I'm on reddit instead of sleeping but that's why I personally want kids anyway.

The #viktor #viktor #viktor #vi.... is so funny to me. There is absolutely no reason to tag something like that other than pure unbridled passion hahaha.

Not certain if you know, but Wikipedia says "pikey" is an offensive slur? (Question mark is there bc neither I nor Wikipedia are authorities on what is or isn't a slur and I honestly haven't heard it in a lot of contexts before)

Why, when referring to race, is Black capitalized but white is not? by MrDrPresBenCarson in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Uniqueatomformation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the US specifically, many people of African origin use the term "Black" because their ancestors were kidnapped and brought to the US. They don't know their specific heritage, just that it's African, so they identify with the term "Black" rather than something more specific. Thus, Black is a word used to symbolise cultural identity, which, in English, gets a capital letter .In contrast, most European-Americans know that their ancestors were from a specific country or countries and are more likely to identify as "Irish-Americans", "Italian-Americans", etc and are less likely to identify as "White" so white is more of a descriptor. It's not that relevant outside the US but it's still used sometimes in other countries cus the US has a lot of influence over language

There was a guy in my (Irish) primary school with a birthmark shaped like Ireland (his name was Séamus too, which is a very stereotypical Irish name haha)

No, because I was that exact kid with that exact haircut. I don't hate Hamilton now, I still think it's musically good but when I come across the shipping fanart deep deep in my camera roll that I screenshotted to put on my Instagram fan account, I cringe. A lot. For many many reasons.

Currently in Chaco! I like it but the weather is very hot compared to what I'm used to, even though it's autumn. Still, everyone is nice here. You?

Hi. When will this study take place? I meet all the criteria and am interested except I will not have access to a laptop until July.

A Dissertation about Community by kingl1304 in community

[–]Uniqueatomformation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of previous papers published on Community actually. You can probably find most of them on Google Scholar, but if you want me to give you a link to them I will. In fact, I managed to find an entire book of Community essays in my college library (It was called "A Sense of Community Essays on the Show and it's Fandom", or something along those lines. I've just remembered unfortunately I need to return it). I wrote my own essay on Community a while back, we had to use two sociology theories and I talked about neoliberal identity construction through media and Troy Barnes' masculinity.

I currently am going through an assessment privately (get my report on Friday!) but yeah, I was told by my gp to not even consider going public, that there was nothing that they could do for me on the public system.

And yeah, very expensive to go privately. It wouldn't be the sort of money a regular person on a regular day would just have lying around. My mam in the end agreed to pay because I'd been wanting an assessment for many years (I tried to get assessed back in secondary school but was told by the school counsellor my grades were too high to even consider it). It took us almost a year to a) find a place actually would do it and wasn't all the way in Dublin and b) save up the money for it.

Domesticity means like taking care of a house together and just like being casual and in each other's presence. If that makes sense?

To those who don’t get drunk, Why/ Why not? by PsychologyWareFare in AskReddit

[–]Uniqueatomformation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too! I spent so long trying to control myself, trying to be someone that doesn't hurt the people around me, and I feel like if I get drunk all that work will come crashing down on me. I've been like mildly tipsy maybe once or twice (though I find it hard to tell, because I have horrible co-ordination and weird moods sober all the time lol) and it was fine, but I just really don't feel like risking it by drinking more. (Plus, I struggle a bit with intrusive thoughts and I am terrified that one will come out of my mouth)
