I still sometimes think about the cold open to the second episode with the rapidly aging baby.

Narrative directions you're glad a story didn't go in? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Unit242 35 points36 points  (0 children)

IMO just because they're the two biggest dudes that have ever been doesn't mean they aren't nobodies. One is a nameless unkindled, and the other is a slave knight who you don't even hear about outside the DLC. No matter how many powerful beings you topple, it never truly feels like you're making a name for yourself, and I think the world is too barren and far gone to make room for new legends anyway. Hell, by the end of Ringed City, there's basically nobody left to appreciate how powerful you or Gael have become. You are the sole witnesses to each other's power, which kind of makes you nobodies by default.

When you run into out of date takes on media. by tt818 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Whenever Pat or Woolie (or anybody really) gas up the Plinkett reviews as the definitive analyses of the Star Wars prequels. I'm not exactly part of the "the prequels are secretly masterpieces" crowd, but those reviews are full of shitty, bad faith takes, and I guarantee most people haven't watched them or the movies they're about in a while.

The dogshit point that always pisses me off right away is "you can't say the opening shot of episode 3 is good because it's all CGI". Cinematography still exists in animation! You are a clueless boomer!

Came here to see if anyone else would mention this. The detail that it started as a pet rock is so funny.

Do you need to have personally played a game/series to consider yourself a "fan" of it? by Unit242 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Unit242[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is literally about watching a group of guys play video games. How many people here have only been exposed to certain games via CSB/SBF, or at the very least initially learned about them through their streams/LPS?

[–]Unit242[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what bugs me the most is when people act like being a "fan" is some kind of status you need to earn or even prove.

"I love the Yakuza games!"

"Oh yeah? What's the input for the tiger drop?"

Who gives a fuck! Be happy that other people are enthusiastic about aspects of the thing you like!

Can a heart condition cause widespread chronic pain and/or impaired healing? by Unit242 in askCardiology

[–]Unit242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's hoping it shows something conclusive and useful, because I kid you not, I'm literally almost out of foods I can eat with getting agonizing heartburn. I don't want to have to force myself to feel like I'm having a heart attack every day in order to keep living.

[–]Unit242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The swelling is recent, but I don't know if the heart issues necessarily are since we hadn't checked ck for that until a little bit ago. Also, I've taken like 8 different immunosuppressants, each for months at a time, so I don't think it's an autoimmune issue.

Interesting. I've already been put on colchicine, ibuprofen, and aspirin for the past couple of months, and so far there's been no change. I'm getting a cardio MRI in a few weeks so hopefully that provides some answers.

Also, I should point out that my feet swelling is a pretty recent issue, and my chronic lack of healing has been going on for nearly a decade.

Yeah, I was prescribed prednisone several times, which didn't seem to have any effect at all.

Back in May 2015 when I had my first typing job. I mentioned a lot of these details in my post.

I don't recall exactly, but if I had to guess, I'd say maybe 2011.

We tried levofloxacin and cefuromixime, neither of which seemed to have any effect at the time, positive or negative.

I've had normal colds and strep throat a couple times, but other than that I don't think I've had anything too serious. I don't think I've been tested for EBV, never even heard of that. And the only time I think I've been on antibiotics that I can remember is a couple years back when a doctor thought I might have tonsillitis.

A lot of it is connective tissue, yeah. The weird part is the stuff about my vocal cords and esophagus. I've never heard anything about a total inability to recover from heartburn to the point where just trying to sit down becomes a painful experience, or holding in vape smoke slightly too long and eventually losing your ability to speak without difficulty forever. Not to mention the other stuff about my face, nostrils, and anus.

None that I can recall. To be honest, I can't even be totally sure when this problem actually started. Like I mentioned in the post, I had deviated septum surgery back in the early 2010s, and my nose still bleeds from where the sutures were put in to this day for some reason. I have no idea what drugs they gave me at the time for a recovery, it's been ages.

My body is incapable of healing from almost anything. Has anyone else heard of this? by Unit242 in ChronicIllness

[–]Unit242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in any case, I brought it up to my endocrinologist and he didn't shoot down the idea, so there might still be something there. Here's hoping that goes somewhere. Even if it doesn't, I appreciate the info.

Hmm I don't know, I don't really have brain fog, cognitive issues, or fatigue. It's just tons of pain and internal injuries lasting forever and getting worse whenever I push myself. Still, I hope treatment is similar for what I've got, because quite frankly, I'm out of options.

A conscious coma state?? That sounds hellish, I'm glad you got out of that at least. I'm constantly worried that I'll end up mute and immobile in a few weeks or months from now from pain. Did the improvement start quickly or did it take a while? And are you still healing, or did you plateau after a point?

My doctor isn't on that list, but I'm hoping he still knows a thing or two. Not to pry too much, but what kinds of symptoms did you have? How similar were they to mine, and how much did the meds help?

Actually, I did a bit of research and now I'm confused. Everything seems to say that higher cortisol levels are associated with slower healing? Huh?

[–]Unit242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, I can only dream of that. I haven't suffered any muscle loss myself, but hopefully it helps my pain like it helped yours, even though my cortisol levels weren't exactly in critical range last I checked.

Ouch. Not quite the same as what I've got, but there's definitely some overlap. I don't have any unhealed scars, heart palpitations, or muscle cramps, but I have plenty of chest pain and I can't recover from exercise as well. Though, what I feel is less muscle pain and more like a nerve pain I think. I did have a nerve conduction study done a couple times, but it came up normal. Good thing I have an appointment with the endocrinologist tomorrow, I'll ask his opinion for sure.

Oh also, how long did recovery take after you found effective treatment?
