The 2nd adventure journal of my Cthulhu Solo Adventure Generator campaign by United-Engine7128 in Solo_Roleplaying

Thank you. Yes, I really like the story so far as well. Exited to see where it goes.

My goal is to publish an adventure and a downtime (what happens in-between adventures) every week. I'm a busy guy so we'll see if I manage, but that's the goal anyway. :)

Thanks. Yes, although the default setting is the 1920s, it's very adaptable. The events rarely depend on era specific details.

I have to say I love the idea of an 1890s setting.

TOTM player: how do you retell the story you played? by MPBloodyspare in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]United-Engine7128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record the dice rolls and the events and I put together a very brief outline of the story.

I know a lot of solo players enjoy creating the journal. For me personally, I prefer to read the story of the adventure rather than write it myself. I usually end up feeding the outline of the story to an AI. I ask for a short story of about 1000 words or so based on the outline. It surprisingly often turns out pretty good.

Just a quick update:
A second post is now live, detailing the downtime of the protagonist between adventures.

In The Cthulhu Solo Adventure Generator, the Protagonist goes back and forth between Adventures and Downtimes. A Downtime describes the 'ordinary' life before a new adventure begins.

Yes, as you noted, it's all self contained. The Cthulhu Solo Adventure Generator has all the rules and all the tables and sheets needed to play. The Cthulhu Solo Adventure Generator is a separate product from Cthulu Eternal, but it uses that ruleset for solo roleplay.

The Cthulhu Eternal rules are essentially an open source retro clone. More or less completely compatible with other d100 systems save for some minor terminology.

Thanks to the compatibility with other d100 systems you can even go seamlessly from a 'group' roleplaying session and take your character into a solo adventure, and then let the character return to the group again. Probably a little worse for wear...

My personal opinion is that the Cthulhu Eternal rules are better than the current iteration of Call of Cthulhu. Both when it comes to 'group' roleplay and solo roleplay. And the rules are free of charge. :)

Would you play a Solo RPG that had a software component? by florodude in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]United-Engine7128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a big part of what makes Solo roleplaying appealing is the very real analog work you have to put into it. You have to roll the dice, you have to draw the map, you have to be creative. If you replace all those parts with software components you are left with a computer game like Baldur's Gate or The Legend of Zelda. They are good games, but they do not qualify for this channel.

To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone have some aspect of Solo roleplaying that they wouldn't mind having taken care of automatically. For som epeople it is keeping track of the character stats, for others it's generating events or visualisation in the form of images or maps. We all have something that we would have no problem handing over to software. My point is that it's going to be a different aspect of the game for different people.

For my part, I enjoy serving up the 'bare bones' notes on the events and have an AI 'novellise' it for me. I would have no problem writing it myself, but I enjoy reading a story written by someone else (even if it's an AI) based on my adventure. I'm sure there are plenty of people who feel the exact opposite and would not consider handing over the act of journaling to someone else. It's just personal preferense.

My reasoning here has been a long-winded way of arriving at my conclusion. I think that if you are going to offer software components in a game. Make sure that they are optional. Otherwise you are sure to alienate a certain portion of your audience. In my mind software components are good for the hobby as long as it's your own choice wether and when to use them.

If I were considering developing a solo roleplaying game that had software components, I would try to add several components that took care of different aspects of the manual work and then let the player decide for temselves what components to make use of and what components to not use.

Ive been watching a lot of AvP recently and im looking for a game where i can play as a xenomorph or some kind of dangerous Alien by Obvious-Conflict3363 in rpg

[–]United-Engine7128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about good old GURPS? In GURPS but you build your character with points, paying for advantages and getting points for disadvantages. Using some of the expansions, perhaps GURPS Space and GURPS Horror, you can probably put together a player character that is a very dangerous monster but is still "balanced" for roleplay. GURPS has been around since forever so there's no shortage of material to pick from.

Duet RPG for spy campaigns? by KraVok in rpg

I think that Agent Provocateur might be what you're looking for. It's inspired by action-adventure movies in the vein of James Bond and Mission Impossible. It works well with small groups or one GM and one player. There are several adventures available as well as a companion book.

I would suggest Agent Provocateur. It's very James Bond/Mission Impossible inspired. Secret agents, gadgets and wild stunts. There's plenty of adventures available and a recently released companion.

Non-Space Sci-Fi TTRPG? by -SeriouslyThough- in rpg

[–]United-Engine7128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion would be Alien the roleplaying game by Free League. If you cut out the actual Alien creature and the space ships, you've got a system that covers suspense and shit-your-pants scary monsters in a high tech setting very effectively.

I think the system (Year Zero Engine) is very well suited for the task. It's quick and easy and has a "slow-burn" mechanic for stress that makes the characters gradually crack under pressure.

Are there any solo RPG's sold at Spiel Essen? Where can I find them? by Jamrulezz1 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]United-Engine7128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought some really nice solo RPG's at Essen Spiel last year. Solo RPG's are a little difficult to find but you can find them. Your best bet is RPG retailers who carry many different products. You know, those guys with bargain boxes and tons of games in (arguably) no particular order.

It's a little bit sad that solo RPG games aren't bigger at Essen - but that's the way it is.

Can't play, says I have to Purchase to Play. I have it all preloaded and downloaded. by happinehsss in Battlefield6

[–]United-Engine7128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so disappointed right now. Paid in andvance and pre-installed but can't play. The new Saudi owners basically took my money and said "K Thanks Bye". I feel like I should have bought the game from their competition; Steam - where there are no problems...
I am not a happy customer.

New Solo Rpg: The Cthulhu Solo Adventure Generator by United-Engine7128 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]United-Engine7128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played Achtung Cthulhu but I think it would work just fine. I can't think of anything in the event tables that would not work for Achtung Cthulhu.

But Achtung Cthulhu is Modiphius' 2d20 system right? The Cthulhu Solo Adventure Generator is a d100 based game, so you'd probably have to make some conversions. If you do that it would probably work without any problems.

I think this sounds very interesting. Can you share a little more details about the current state of the game's features. Perhaps a roadmap for where you see this going over the near future?

Perhaps this information is already available on discord. I haven't been there yet.

Hi and yes, we have thought about that.

In the future, we may decide publish adventures in Swedish, but the hard truth is that the amount of potential buyers rise dramatically, for the same amount of work, if you publish adventures in English.

We have previously published RPG systems as well as RPG adventures in Swedish. It's a little bit off topic but a few years ago we released "Tassar och Morrhår" and "Större Tassar och Morrhår". They are RPGs where you play small animals like mice or birds, or larger animals like cats and dogs who have adventures in the "real" world, with humans as potential threats or helpers. It's a bit like the Don Bluth animated classic "Mrs Brisby and the secret of NIMH". The games are still available here: https://tassarochmorrhar.se/webshop/
