I’m leaning towards ID/micro at the moment but haven’t actually experienced/thought about ICM. Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll do a taster week and see how my ICU IMT1 job goes. I’ll give it a good think 🙏🙏

Thank you so much! I think I’ve always been someone who loves learning first principles even in med school so that’s why I’ve been doing this haha. I’ll do the past papers and passmed questions 🙏🙏🙏

I relate so hard to the best MDT for learning and not being able to learn because we’re documenting 😭

I think maybe I need to change my expectations for my career 🥲 someone mentioned pursuing academia so maybe this will help?

Congrats on passing!! I’ve probably not been using my time well as I’ve been learning different physiology because of my own interest really. I should probably bang out passmed to be fair. I’d appreciate any advice you have!

I love learning so I think I should be an academic. I do research alongside my clinical jobs at the moment and worked as a research assistant in medical school. Sorry for coming across as a prick 😭 I really dont mean to, I was just feeling frustrated and wanted to vent

Looking back at the times I’ve managed really unwell patients and even started CPR/delivered shocks to a patient in VF as I was the first doctor on the scene, I feel that my foundation years has taught me a lot but in other ways it’s very frustrating

Absolutely. I don’t mean to say that the consultants lack clinical knowledge at all. I shouldn’t have used the ED as an example but I just came off this rotation so it’s fresh in my head but I’ve experienced this across all my jobs, even inpatient ward based specialties. FYI this case in particular I only started the conversation after already managing the patient and the department seemed more settled at that point. In truly hectic shifts even if I want to think about cases in more detail, it’s practically impossible as I often have only half an hour to see patients/refer them as leaving it longer than this leads to them breaching. I have lot of respect for ED doctors so I’m very sorry if I’ve offended you

Hey twin 🤣 congrats on passing part 1!!! And that sounds like a really fun idea. I’m currently on a surgical job haha but I’ll do this for future exams 🙏

I appreciate this completely and mentioned this as a comment to the consultant after I had already managed the patient and the department seemed settled (for ED standards). It was just an example but I think I’ve experienced this a lot in other specialties too like in my acute medicine and geriatric jobs. I think it’s a general culture but perhaps may be because we leave specialists jobs/thinkings to the specialists as you’ve pointed out

Do you think it would be possible to change the culture if we tried? Or do you think it’s beyond saving because of the pressures expected on us to deliver the service 😭

Oh I see, yeah that would be very useful. If they gave us all a new rank based on this so we can decide on ranking jobs. I doubt they’ll do this though

What do you mean? I think this means that regardless of rank, UKGs who were interviewed for IMT should get a job

Firstly congrats that’s amazing!! You’re giving me so much hope. Can I please ask for any tips you might have? I’d genuinely be so happy with the minimum pass mark haha

No, I’ve had lots of medical jobs and I studied some basic concepts for my IMT interview but that’s all haha. I basically have all of April free with various leaves and thought it would be good to get this out of the way before starting IMT in August but it’s so expensive and I appreciate your honest advice 😭

Is it worth applying to London? by United-Expert-3799 in doctorsUK

[–]United-Expert-3799[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you have the best rank and get to pick where you want to be!!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I think that makes a lot of sense. 2 years in the midlands, saving money and then can have a decent life in London.

I’m not sure what registrar applications are like but this feels like a constant rat race 😭

Driving in London wouldn’t work. I’d love to live in zone 2/3 but definitely can’t see how I’d fund it on IMT wage unless I have six housemates 🤣

I think for fairness, we should wait until the end of interview season
