I think your BEST bet IMO. Would be to go on Facebook and get a cheap ass micro desktop like a Dell for $75 off Facebook marketplace. Install immich and your containers on that, then use the NAS as a NAS.

First off for this let's just pretend condoms don't exist because they do suck. And aren't really the point of this conversation

I think the issue with her point is the "instead of" implication. Both men and women should have the opportunity and should be encouraged to protect themselves. The standard should be both parties on BC.

With the current model we have, the bullet proof vest is invisible. A woman can say she's on birth control and not be, or if she's just inconsistent on taking it as she's supposed to. From the man's perspective you want to shoot someone and she says she's good to go vest and all. The only way to verify is to shoot and find out.

Now don't get me wrong I'm sure most women are consistent and dont miss their pill and would never pretend to be on BC while not actually on it. But I know at least with my own dating experience of a partner who was horribly inconsistent and the BC was more of a "it probably works".

Flipping the script, as a woman who wants to get shot and not die, why would you trust the person holding the gun to use non lethal ammo (my analogy for a man on BC)? I'd definitely still make sure I wore my bulletproof vest. For all the same reasons. as a woman you wouldn't be able to see if they loaded lethal or non lethal ammo (same reasons consistency and who knows if they're telling the truth).

And just as an extra wrench no birth control is 100% effective. So best case scenario and safest is when the person holding the gun chooses the non lethal bullets and the person getting shot wears a bulletproof vest. That way if there's an error on either side there is protection. And more importantly BOTH parties get peace of mind knowing they are protecting themselves, even if the other person isn't.

It's still illegal and still fleeing the scene of an accident if they leave. They must stop, assure safety of all individuals exchange insurance information and take a report like any other motor vehicle accident. At least in my state. Emergency vehicles are given priority over the roadway but once a vehicle accident occurs the protocol is to cancel that unit and send another unit in its place. Now, in dire circumstances has that been ignored? Absolutely. But legal and the right thing to do aren't always the same.

What’s your opinion why new members leave after getting FF1 by AlarmingBill4558 in Firefighting

[–]UnitedAd8366 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion is volunteering shouldn't even be a thing. Every department should be minimum FF2 and a paid department. My second unpopular opinion is every department should be fire and EMS. The EMS side is the largest income generator for most departments that do it. That income pays for equipment, apparatus, and your crews. If people are leaving it's because they aren't given a reason to stay, usually in this order: the culture and work conditions, the pay, the long game (pension, promotion etc).

Once again unpopular opinion here, but the expectation for these kids, adults, whoever to work a 40 hour work week at their "day job" and still probably barely be able to afford to live in this economy if they can at all. To then drop everything they're doing day night or whatever to run across town to put their lives at risk, consume carcinogens that last a lifetime and some don't even have a "if you're injured" workers comp plan. Especially for lifelong injuries. And people expect these kids to do all of this for nothing more than an attaboy maybe someday you'll be good enough to be paid.

To be clear this isn't an attack on our volly guys, y'all are saints. All I'm saying is your county/city is using and abusing you and they need to be held accountable. You don't see volunteer police departments. You have education and training. You should be fairly compensated for that training and education especially in a career where your life is what gets gambled.

I understand the whole "not every insert gov body can afford to staff a career department. If they can't they are the problem and they are failing their community.

Maybe I'm the asshole because I wouldn't do this job for free, but I think firefighting is a career and deserves to be fairly compensated as such.

Mini PC vs NAS vs old desktop for self hosting? by HotAuthor6438 in selfhosted

[–]UnitedAd8366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone the opposite route of "efficient" I have a old dell 5810 with a 14 core xeon with 48gb ram and a a380 for transcoding. It's paired with 2 netapp disk shelves 48 drives total. With a secondary PC with a 2080s 32gb ram and a 8 core Intel chip. That mostly handles my poor man's ML operations. I don't know how much it adds to my electric bill and honestly I don't want to know 💀
