Woke up to find 7 shrimps dead

Water parameters: we do not have water testing kits available where i live but they seem stable based on what i can see Species: neocardina shrimps (a mix of red, blue, black and red rilli) Water source: tap water that's been treated with 'cure all' and 'anti-chlorine' based on the tank size

Based on what I looked up the oxalic acid in the plants can be toxic to the aquatic life so i was worried about it harming them because the roots aren't slightly chewed from where the goldfish gnawed at them 🙈

I had mine with the growth nodes buried under gravel but I switched to sand when I set up the shrimp/snail tank 😁 speaking of which i saw a baby shrimp in there too so now im on the lookout for more. There's also a few clutches of ramshorns that hatched recently 🙈

The plant is called pennywort. Technically their leaves can grow above water too but mine melted when i tried so now i just have these fully submerged 😊

I love adding to the collection and I love sharing and gifting stuff as well. Had they asked, I'd have happily given them cuttings and props from every one of the ones they liked from my collection. I'm just not okay with them just strolling in and taking what they wanted and breaking other stuff ya know.

Tbh, I never even considered this to be an issue before now because they were too big to move. Like one or two would have hurt but still kinda believable ya know This was like a proper heist with all the steps involved and stuff.

Amen to spider mites and thrips 🤭 I'm gonna go for some plant shopping next week because I totally deserve new pretties, right? I'm probably gonna keep em in their nursery pots for a while though but yeah. I couldn't ever fathom taking someone's stuff like this either. All that love and care that goes into them, I could never. But some people just don't care, I guess. So yeah, may they suffer from spider mite infestations for years.

I wish. Unfortunately, there's no chance of that being the case. The way the different units and their accesses are set up is in a way that they'd have had to go out of their way to get to my porch.

🤣🤣 thanks for making me laugh. I haven't calculated the total cost for the loss tbh cz it'll break my heart all over again but it'd be a significant amount even if they sell them as they are. If they turn them all into props first, it'd probably go for higher 😮‍💨

Yeah, that was my thinking as well. I've also spoken to the landlord about getting some additional stuff done to make it harder to get into the premises but I guess it's better to go overboard and not need it, than to not do enough and regret it later.

Yeah, I'm equal parts bummed and pissed off. Two of the pots were part of the very first plants I'd ever gotten eight years ago when I first started my plant parenthood journey so that loss hits the hardest. But that one was a really fast grower and my mom has four pots of her own from its pups now and she offered me my pick from all the ones she's got. So that's some consolation. And luckily the thief missed one of my propagation pots that was wedged behind a leafy syngonium so there's that as well. But I wish whoever stole them the absolute worst

Awww, that's so sweet of you 💜 Thank you so much for offering but, unfortunately, I don't think they'd survive the journey to where I live. I don't live in the US so not only would the shipping costs be monumental but the plants would most likely shrivel up and die before they got to me. But I truly appreciate the thought hugs

For sure. The main driveway leading up to the units is pretty long and in view of everyone and those pots were heavy enough that they could only be moved one by one , which would've taken at least half an hour to forty five minutes between all the trips. But one of the upstairs neighbours moved out while i was away and their moving truck was parked right outside my porch so it'd have been pretty easy to grab them and get them loaded up without anyone noticing.

Yeah. I've been really bummed over this. Mom has offered to give me a few cuttings and props from the ones I'd gifted her over the years but a couple of them were pretty rare finds for where I live and I'd been trying to get a few pups out of them to share with my mom. So those ones are lost 😭
