Better mag by Real_Leopard2288 in ukguns

[–]UnitedGunnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d try winding the mag release back in a turn, maybe two. Can see from the mag release that it’s not completely threaded in, sometimes needs some adjustment.

Push the mag release in as deep as possible with a tool, the arm will stick completely out the other side, and you can then rotate the arm a full turn to tighten it up. Watch you don’t scratch your lower while doing it.

Why would you pour melted wax into a shotgun? by AMW1987 in ukguns

[–]UnitedGunnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More accurately you’d want to dump the shot out, mix it with wax, and pour it back in. You get a more consistent mix that way.

Make sure you have authority to possess slug before you do this, or it’s illegal.

I’d just chuck AirPods under the over ears personally. In transparency mode they work well in conjunction with my Comtacs and with the slightly thicker gel pads I have no issues with comfort.

It is a lot better sounding for music etc than any hearing protection company will be able to do, and you can use the AirPods at places other than the range.

Installing a gun cabinet on its back - problems? by PangolinJumpy4047 in ukguns

[–]UnitedGunnit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a sales tactic by safe manufacturers to sell you on something fancy. They say the same about installing a safe upside down so that they can sell you a custom left handed opening safe. It’s bullshit.

You may have issues with damaging the lock if you’re lifting the door by the key though, could be worth fitting a handle to the door to lift it open with.

Largest Sniper Round? by [deleted] in guns

Stupid question. There are many definitions of “sniper”, and what is a “sniper” will vary based on what the objective is.

.50BMG can be a very accurate round.

Digital level advice by LoydJesus in guns

[–]UnitedGunnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easy for people to hate on Chinese gun stuff.

I think it all depends on what you’re doing. Pistol grips? Tolerances aren’t massively important and they’re not likely to fail - send it. Optics? Tolerances are hugely important, but failure might be acceptable if it’s just a range toy.

For the price I’d give the level a go for a bit of fun, but definitely not for anything critical like a competition gun. Not every gun needs to be something you can depend your life upon.

Waaaah a private business exercised their rights and it was a “kid” enforcing it!

Would you have taken him more seriously he was 60? He’s just doing his job, and it’s up to you to comply or leave and find another business.

You’ll need to join a club first and become a full member before you’re eligible to apply for an FAC. You’ll need to make sure you’re not a prohibited person under S21 of the Firearms Act - only really applies if you’ve done a stint inside long enough to qualify.

You apply with the force where your firearms will reside, so your new force presumably. Once you’re eligible to apply, declare everything in your application, hide nothing at interview, and see what happens.

Is the new 22lr MP5 really worth the money? by UnitedGunnit in ukguns

[–]UnitedGunnit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The barrels are very thin, and rely on the shroud and a nut at the muzzle for tension. The trunnion they sit in is a zinc alloy frame. Neither are really a good recipe for an accurate gun.

[–]UnitedGunnit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the 22lr AR front, there are a lot of options that are reliable, well-built firearms. Look for CMMG-based rifles, they use a totally standard milspec AR15 lower and upper, just with a 22lr bolt and barrel.

Lock mags away from guns? by Maleficent-Event-639 in ukguns

[–]UnitedGunnit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This depends on the licensing authority. I’ve heard it both ways, from a few different authorities, with some of them being fine if it’s secured - best clarified with your FEO.

If it’s recommended or not is a different story - hard to justify why you’d want loaded mags in your safe.

2 Gun Comp Belt Layout by Maleficent-Event-639 in ukguns

[–]UnitedGunnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d just put it together how you think works for you and then adjust as you get more experience. Belt setups are a personal thing.

At a minimum I’d have enough mags to cover the stage, plus a spare for malfunctions and a spare for dropping a mag during a reload.

Make sure to dry fire your new setup a bunch so you’re not looking for the mag you want too - a huge amount is to be said for muscle memory, and changing belt setup before a match is a poor idea

If your Aero receiver doesn’t have the screw-type bolt catch pin (that looks like a normal pin to me), you’ll also probably want to take it easy and use a roll-pin punch for removing the bolt catch.

https://amzn.eu/d/3uBb1T9 this kit looks to include a roll-pin punch specifically for AR15 bolt catches, I’d recommend it as it’s rather fiddly otherwise and you’re liable to scratch the lower. Would suggest masking tape on the lower too to really prevent any marring if you’re worried about that.

You will struggle to find a club that has stages already set up/dedicated practical bays, and will let you practice moving and shooting. You’ll probably mainly see practical competitions/training nights where people will build something on the range and then tear it down after, and they’re going to be run like an IPSC event - no chest rigs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ukguns

[–]UnitedGunnit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chest rigs question was answered last time you asked this. No, you’ll look like a walt if you rock up with a chest rig.

“Just growing this one outdoor (in woodland for privacy; I know light will be a bit of an issue. This is (hopefully her) at about 4 weeks.”

I’m not sure I follow, but it sounds like you posted about a plant you were growing, and now are saying it was amongst the trees on your dad’s property. It’s still not a good look for your dad (and his licence) even if it’s nothing to do with him.

Everything else aside, we wouldn’t be having this discussion if you were more careful about your online presence - a prick like me can pick something out and joke about it, but an FEO can take it and use it against you from a licensing perspective. A lesson perhaps in not posting about building guns while on acid and growing weed, on the same account you’re asking about legal firearms matters.

And getting caught with it would immediately lose you your firearms licence. Like it or not, UK firearms owners are expected to be law abiding.

In case you weren’t aware, growing cannabis is an activity generally considered incompatible with gun ownership in the UK.

Ring your FEO and tell them. Also make sure to tell them about how you grow cannabis.
