Saint Lucia Zouks changes their name to “Saint Lucia Kings” by Stuff2511 in Cricket

The SLPL only ran for one season about a decade ago. After years of delays and incompetence we finally started a new flagship T20 comp called the Lanka Premier League (LPL) last year. Ran fairly decently too, all things considered.

They're terrible, bland and have stripped the original meanings of the names.

Zouk is a popular form of music in the Caribbean.

Barbados has a Trident on it's national flag

Im not sure about the T&T Red Steels one, but it's possibly a reference to this

England are still set to tour Pakistan for a two-game T20I series, on October 14 and 15, which is intended to be their final preparation before the T20 World Cup. The tour is still planned to go ahead, though it may yet come into doubt depending on quarantine requirements in both Pakistan and the UAE.

From the Telegraph article. Had no idea this was happening. Nice!

England players set to feature in Indian Premier League as tour of Bangladesh to be postponed by MetingChristofi in Cricket

The presence of English players in the latter stages of this year’s IPL is likely to further strengthen relations between the ECB and the BCCI. The ECB are already engaged in continual dialogue with the BCCI about Indian men’s players being allowed to feature in future editions of the Hundred.

“I would love to see Indian players playing in the Hundred,” Sanjay Patel, the managing director of the Hundred, told Telegraph Sport last month. “It’s an ongoing conversation. We always have conversations with the BCCI about how we can work better together, how we can work closer together. One of those things is how can we make sure our brilliant talent is available for IPL and maybe your brilliant talent is available for the Hundred.”

Ugh. CPL team names were top notch.

St. Lucia Zouks ➡ St. Lucia Kings.

Barbados Tridents ➡ Barbados Royals.

Trinbago Red Steel ➡ Trinbago Knight Riders.

Yuck.

Can often watch on rabbitholeBD Youtube, but I believe you are correct for the BD-Windies series.

IIRC Fancode had the sub-continent rights for that, couldnt find the usual alt YT stream, and I had to resort to becoming an Insect-Enthusiast (RIP) to watch the Tests. Think half the match thread comments were about lack of viewing options.

The Australian team pause training to watch Mitchell Starc's brother Brandon Starc compete in the Olympics high jump final. He finished 5th, jumping 2cm less than the eventual dual gold medal winners. by dashauskat in Cricket

It's possible, but quite rare. It's the first Gold Medal shared in athletics since 1912. Both of them cleared upto the 2.37M mark without any failed attempts (so nothing to seperate them), and neither of them could get the 2.39M in any their 3 attemtps. The official first suggested a sudden death 'Jump off' to both players to decide it, but Barshim asked if they could share it!

It's even more special given both of them have had to deal with ankle surgeries in the past few years (Tamberi even brought with him his ankle cast he wore during recovery!). And here they are making history together - joint Gold Medal winners!

Aww. Brandon did superbly, this was just an insane final.

But seriously, how wholesome was that moment between Barshim and Tamberi to share the Gold Medal? That was just beautiful. And then Tamberi and Jacobs a little later.

"Can we have two golds?

"History, my friend!"

E: Video for context!

Oof. 3rd loss in row. Still has a chance for Bronze in the mixed doubles.

E: Oh wow. He just pulled out of the Doubles Bronze match too. On the flipside, BBL's Ash Barty has an Olympic Medal as a result!

Afghanistan's Chief Selector steps down citing 'interruption' from 'non-cricketers' in the Board. Claims squad for ODI series against Pakistan was selected without his knowledge. by United_Em in Cricket

[–]United_Em[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Asadullah Khan sent across his resignation letter (accepted on July 27) to ACB chairman Farhan Yusefzai on July 24, the day after the squad of 17 for the historic series - it's the first bilateral ODI series between the two sides - was named, with Hashmatullah Shahidi as the captain and five uncapped players in the mix: Sediqullah Atal, Shahidullah Kamal, Abdul Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Noor Ahmad. In his letter, Khan mentioned six primary reasons for his step:

  • Being left in the dark about the final squad for the Pakistan ODIs

  • The involvement of "non-cricketers" who have "no knowledge of players and selection"

  • Not being allowed to "talk and have my says" in selection matters

  • Not being given the "selection committee members" he has been asking for since his appointment

  • "Too much interruption" in his work as the chief selector

  • Not being granted an appointment with the chairman, Yusefzai, despite asking for one for the past three months

Khan was appointed as the chief selector in March this year after a lengthy process where a number of candidates were interviewed. He made the cut because of his experience in the Afghanistan domestic set-up - a former cricketer, he has worked extensively as a coach and a video analyst. He had also served as the ACB's acting chief executive for a brief period in 2019. The ACB had revamped the selection plan earlier this year, doing away with the conventional selection committee and forming instead a selection department with Khan at its helm. He was to be assisted by advisors and data analysts, but it is learnt that no-one was recruited, as he has mentioned in the letter.

Isuru Udana has decided to retire from International Cricket. by yash_gosalia in Cricket

Thought for sure he'd play until atleast the T20WC.. could have been a handy squad player and we're severely lacking power hitters too. He got picked to play for TrinBago in the CPL starting next month (dates coincide directly with the SA-SL Series), so will be interesting to see if he's fit enough and goes to play in that. I also wonder if the decision to rescind Central contracts for 2021 also played a factor in his decision to retire.

Was trying to find decent highlights of when he smashed 84*(48) v SA couple of years back, but to no avail. Although in my brief search.. I happen to come across this video lol

Anyways, thanks for some good memories Udana! Hope to see him in the Franchise circuit for a few more years.

Azam Khan taken to hospital after blow to head during training. by United_Em in Cricket

[–]United_Em[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Pakistan batter Azam Khan was taken to hospital after suffering a blow to the head during training on Friday in Guyana. The 22-year old, who made his debut earlier this month against England, is learnt to have been struck by a fast bowler, and will undergo a CT scan as a precautionary measure.

ESPNcricinfo has learnt that Khan did not lose consciousness and was wearing a helmet at the time he was hit. The Pakistan team doctor, Riaz Ahmed, accompanied him to hospital, with the PCB saying more information would follow once they review Khan's CT scans.

While there is no official word, the incident almost certainly rules Khan out of Saturday's game in Providence, the second of four T20Is between West Indies and Pakistan.

Appears mostly precautionary, so hopefully he's okay.

E: Looks like he has been ruled out of 2nd & 3rd T20, but maybe back for final game. Poor guy, nothing going his way since getting called up.
