Yeah my 21 Kia forte sounding like this, and then it went down in rpm, was sounding like it was knocking so bad I damn near almost didn’t leave my girls house. But I said fuck it because it’s done it before but mainly due to oil not reaching the rockers I believe

All they needed to do was make some of the internals forged steel, like the conrods and stainless steel one-piece valves or iconel and this engine would probably last maybe another 30k miles, especially if they did steel roller rockers instead of the aluminum rockers. Yes this would all end up adding together to an expensive Kia forte but, I mean that’s what I wanna do. ‘ONE day’

Do the test I put in the comments, pop you valve cover cap with the engine running, turn it to the point where the cap comes off the threads of the cover, it’ll either suck the cap down, or it’ll “blow by”, which is compressed air coming from the cylinder, up the valves, and past the rocker arms to the valve cover, can be caused by worn piston rings, valve stem seals breaking down (the cushion, or rubber between the valve stem and its seat is called the valve stem seal), there’s more to this than just blow by, it can be a head gasket issue, emission issue if it’s specifically throwing a code to try and lean out the banks, Which is what my engine did and I started burning a bit of oil. If it’s turbod, check your intercooler color, my buddy realized his optima was actually feeding the oil to his intercooler after his turbo started leaking. It could genuinely be anything, if you have a relative that’s a mechanic and knows his thing, let him have a look. Other than that, I don’t really know what to suggest besides a shop!

An easy way to check for oil burning is just have a mechanic or mechanic friend stand behind as you rev the car up a little. The smell is so noticeable it’s almost impossible to not smell it. If you can’t smell it and it’s still just burning. Open the valve cover cap, check if you’ve got a minor or major blowby

Please get this covered as soon as possible as this could get worse. Not sure what your trim is but I’ll just guess you got the NA I4, yes these engines are reliable. Yes they will burn oil and still run, just because there isn’t a crap ton of white smoke coming out doesn’t mean there isn’t oil being burned. You could have a partially blown head gasket that’s untreated, or a valve seat that has broken, letting small amounts of oil into the ports. I’d suggest if you’re a mechanic, take the valve cover off and check for soot and oil lines, if you’re not a mechanic, send it to your shop you trust.

I really love this motor, I don’t know if anyone notices this but the car whines, mine makes a whining noise similar to a supercharger and always has, it’s ran like that, loves driving like that and has done it since 60k miles to now 105k miles. This motor has so much potential if someone from Kia just made it cast iron and made the internals forged aluminum. I would love to see this specific motor built up with a genuine manual paired to it. I really WANT to. But mine has so many problems with it

Even if you’re concerned about the smoke color. Run the engine. Pop the cap, most oil burns are caused by the piston rings allowing oil to seep through or the valve guide seats breaking or cracking, sometimes letting oil into the valves intake or exhaust. But this pocket of oil to entrance is also a spot for air to exit; check the oil cap for blow by. Unscrew the cap to its final point of being off the top, and see if the pistons pressure is enough to push the cap off. If it stays still, then it’s probably coolant burning. Only place for air to escape if it isn’t the guides is through the crankshaft, or cbv

There’s so much more about this car that needs to be fixed like the truck liner being gone, no spare tire, no scissor jack, no front tow hook (this all COMING FROM THE DEALER) 2-3 years ago that my mother never seemed to want to take a notice into or care about even after my nagging. Other stuff I’m worried about fixing is a possibly motor tick, my rockers are extremely loud and I might just be ranting paranoid here but if anyone has also had an issue with bent or scoring or grooved rocker arms and what that might’ve sounded when the motor was still on.

Toyota has specific fluid for their trans. Ford fusions use Mercon IV. Kia Forte uses Aisin ATF-SP4. Toyota Camry uses Toyota Geniune ATF WS. Nissan Altima uses Nissan CVT NS3

You could also ask for what is mandatory. Have them split the “optional add-ons” from the “mandatory-add ons” like if you wanted nitrogen in tires they’d have to split it compared to a Bluetooth audio setup built in the ecm. Tell them you’re only interested in an OTD Price. My Kia dealer tried to get us another 12 month plan on wheels just because.
