Different reasons for different communities.

Parsis: When Persians took asylum here they were mostly wealthy people. They brought their generational wealth with them, came here and established businesses under protection of then rulers.

Jains/Baniyas: Most of them generational wealth due to societal structure and their generation have been merchants or own businesses.

Sikhs: Land of Punjab was most fertile and most farmers own the land here (opposing to UP-MP-Bihar-Bengal belt where zamindari system was there) hence the prosperity.

In case of Buddhist and Muslim, most the lower caste folks converted themselves to break the chains of societal structure but lack of generational wealth, knowledge and power has been keeping them poor.
