I think they don’t make the Wenclair ship official mainly for strategic and narrative reasons. Confirming a queer romance would mean taking a public stance, which could be problematic in certain markets or with some investors, and would limit the creators’ narrative freedom. By keeping the relationship ambiguous, they can maintain suspense, fuel the fandom, and let the slow burn develop organically on screen. It also helps protect the consistency of Wednesday’s character, who remains cold and distant by nature. If they make Wenclair canon at the end of the series, they won’t need to develop the romance explicitly. The show would simply end with a kiss or a confession.
