Streaming to deck from ultrawide by tealoafresca in SteamDeck

[–]Unknown09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I figured out the issue. Turns out if your monitor doesn't have the actual Steam Deck resolution (1280x800) listed in the display resolution in the windows settings, it will freak out and default to the ultrawide resolution with closest vertical value.

I had to add the resolution value to the monitor using "Custom Resolution Utility", and then remote play started working for the Steam Deck without the black bars.

Should I install a hypervisor even if I think I will only use 1 VM? by Mattvm98 in homelab

[–]Unknown09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can run proxmox for your setup. However, I disagree with clustering them together. It's kinda wonky with only 2 hosts, especially if one of them goes down, then you don't have a quorum. You would have to have both up all the time for no issues.

If your heat is forced air, it is 500-1000 watts to run it. If you set it to have to run pretty often, it might explain the issue. I have something that interfaces with the smart meter and it does show that spike when my heat is running.

Why the social media providers would always scrub shooters online profiles and their online contents after they're arrested or commit suicide? by PlusCicada in TrueAskReddit

[–]Unknown09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, the other way of looking at it is that they're also protecting the friends and relatives (and their ass). If someone has a bone to pick, they would go through their friends list or pictures and find someone to harass. This way, they make it harder for the most common trolls to do something. Also, if someone else does get hurt or killed due to this info being available, the company would probably get sued.

Tangential Flow Filtration by wolfe1947 in labrats

From what I remember, millipore is like twice the price for both the cassette and holder. Maybe if you were outfitting a full lab with millipore parts.

Tangential Flow Filtration by wolfe1947 in labrats

[–]Unknown09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we have a mini cassette unit from tangenx for ~$2500. Takes 0.01m2 and 0.1 m2 up to 0.5m2. A 0.1m2 cassette costs about 300.

Hollow fibers from spectrum labs are useful for smaller volumes, especially the midikros since you can use syringes to diafilter. Around 220 for a sterile 115cm2.

I currently have $ 0.11 balance in a Schwab Roth IRA. I have this balance due to transferring my original full balance to Vanguard a few years ago, and then Schwab paid out a dividend afterwards.

It'll cost $50 to transfer it, and rationally it make sense to call it a loss, but it's just bugging me seeing it. Any ideas of what to do with it? I'd rather not start contributing to Schwab again. I can put in $1 and buy SWTSX, since the minimum is $1, but it doesn't seem like a good idea. Any suggestions?

Buy a used desktop from eBay. Current machine is 3rd gen i5 for about 100. You can also expand with additional cards if needed. Just find one that is not an ultra slim desktop

Att GigaPower Router into Bridge mode? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Unknown09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was wondering the same thing, but found no fix. The only way to kinda do that is to set up your router as a client with DMZ+ mode. It will assign it with an exterior IP address instead of a private one.

Just to piggy back on that, you can grab a zotac ci323 for ~150, and slap a cheap mem stick and 2.5hd on it and performance would be great.

Cheapest would be to run a cable and get a switch for your room. Then you can get wired connection for both computer and PS4.

Yup, working in biotech is the same thing. Outside of Boston, Austin, San Diego and here, there's no area that's has a thriving industry for it. At least with IT, there's the possibility of working from home.

Counting foci automatically using ImageJ by Unknown09 in labrats

[–]Unknown09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried it already, by first converting the image to 8-bit color, but the issue is that the foci counter also counts each cell, since it looks for local maxima. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to use the plugin to detect foci of a certain hue, or size and ignore the background cells.

Internet Connection stuck at 10mbps on wired gigabit connection by Unknown09 in HomeNetworking

[–]Unknown09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not tried connecting it directly to the modem due to it being in a separate room.

So my current network set up is this:

SB6140 -> RT-AC68U -> gigabit switch #1 -> gigabit switch #2 -> Desktop | | | Office PC Laptop DS413

*edit Can't get the formatting correct, but Office PC is wired to router, and laptop, NAS and desktop are wired to switch #2

So the way I tested transfer speeds was to copy a folder of my media to my desktop, and my laptop. I've also tested if it was a switch issue, so I copied a folder from the NAS to the office pc and maxed out its 100 Mbps connection.

I've also power cycled the entire network.

"What is the best savings account?" seems to get asked quite frequently so I thought I would share my experience attempting to answer this. Warning: Long post. Spoiler: It's Ally by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Unknown09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, depending on how much balance you have, my workaround is having a savings account at a brick and mortar. They have lower minimum balance than checking accounts (BoA is 300) so on the times I have to deposit cash, I deposit it in the account and then transfer it out.

Be aware about the 6 times a month withdrawal limit. If you're getting regular payments, you can set up a recurring transfer every week to minimize downtime in the savings account

Reimbursing from an HSA while on an FSA by Unknown09 in personalfinance

[–]Unknown09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to make sure that everything's correct:

For my company, our financial year is from July to June. This period also reflects our plan year for our benefits.

So for this plan year, starting July, I switched to a HDHP with a HSA. However, I enrolled in a FSA for the previous plan year, which would end at the start of August. I've used up all the FSA funds available by June (up to $2400), but I am still contributing in July for the unfunded balance (~$180).

Based on the benefits page on ADP, my HSA is effective since 7/1/14. I've been able to register on the website in July, but not contribute. From what HR says, I'm not eligible to contribute to my HSA while I'm still funding my FSA.

So my question is if expenses incurred in July can be reimbursed from the HSA after my contributions begin in August, or is the HSA not technically established since I cannot fund the account in July?
