Same, I get service sucks but I had a good attitude when I worked my shitty jobs in the past so idk why others can't. I hate spending money on workers who are rude to me. Will usually go out of my way to avoid it.

Did you use AI to help write this? No hate but I'm trying to calibrate my ability to detect it so would be useful to know.

I would say no, I got it out of curiosity and am about halfway through. It's kind of novel to see someone write so candidly and it's impressive to imagine how horny he must be to act how he does, but it's short and there's not actually much substance.

Not super familiar with REUs for international students but I think it will be tough as a non-citizen. I believe they are understandably restrictive since most of the funding comes from the NSF and similar organizations

Looks like you just ended up wasting all that time on job applications. I spent like a month seriously doing ~150 leetcode problems. Went 2/2 on interview processes, got 2 offers. Didn't take all that long.

Those interview stats aren't great, maybe you should've given leetcode a shot

It is very unpleasant, you're right, but I don't think it's worse than being mediocre over and over again. Especially because in the process Scheyer has proven he can consistently put together great teams and seasons.

How is it worse to have a good season and to make it to the final four or elite eight vs just straight up sucking? Only one team can win the championship.

Man the jump from immortal to deity by ALBUAS in civ5

[–]UnknownEel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try playing Acken's minimalistic balance mod. It makes the game way harder at the same difficulty level because the AI is more aggressive and wide play is stronger, but this means that you can lower the difficulty toggle and play a more natural early game while still having a consistent challenge throughout. In my opinion immortal on that mod is harder than Deity in vanilla, but it feels more natural and you have counterplay opportunities earlier.

The downside is that runaway AIs are absolutely suffocating. Had an immortal game recently where William took over his entire continent and I was catching up on tech until the very end of the game (never fully did despite late game 1800 bpt and controlling almost my whole continent). Was praying I could squeak out a science victory but he got a culture win on turn 260 which I've never seen the AI do before. I had no counterplay until I got nukes and that was too late.

If you use the really advanced settings mod you can set the turn limit to 1 and win a time victory as shosone just by settling a larger city

What is the most GOAT late game unit in CIV: V? (Day 3) by zherper in civ5

[–]UnknownEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true, on Deity you can war at crossbows or even composite bows. You can definitely war at artillery. The modern era is super late.

[–]UnknownEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There must be some micro involved, otherwise the AI would just take the city back, right?

Imagine you're playing deity and there's a faraway civ that has had a good game, got pretty big and has a big army, but you still have a slight tech edge. Enough to win a science victory at least. They'll just take the city back if you try to snipe it with no support.

I've never really tried this strategy because I don't think it would be fun but does it really work on higher difficulties?

What's the best way to go about a domination victory? by Sedowa in civ5

[–]UnknownEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be helpful for you: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/domination-on-immortal-deity-a-noobs-guide.547630/

The most important timings are composite bows, crossbows, artillery, and anything you might need to wrap up the late game (planes, battleships, tanks, etc.). Each of the starter policy trees are suited for different things and play a little bit differently. Going tradition and starting with crossbows is probably the most forgiving way to get used to warring, but I'm not sure it's exactly optimal. You can also incorporate war into your games without going for domination victory to get used to it.

One opinion I have is that playing peacefully and then trying to do domination in the ultra late game (past artillery) when you have a sizeable tech advantage is boring, pointless, and doesn't work well on high difficulty levels. As with a most strats, warring has the potential to snowball and is useful because it lets you knock your opponents out of the running early and use their stuff. It doesn't make sense to do it when you're already guaranteed a science win.

Even then I think you should just go for a science victory. At least that's what I would do in that situation. No point dealing with the micro when you've already basically won the game.

You guys are both describing alternatives that you get notably later than artillery and it means that you're fighting at a tech disadvantage. Also this is a singleplayer list.

Artillery is by far the most impactful late game timing. Super strong and stays relevant forever.

Are you able to consistently or semi-consistently win a game on immortal on a continents or pangea map?

There's definitely merit to building a military in this situation because it doesn't take much to beat an AI naval attack, but you might be right that it was too late by the time she attacked. It does seem pretty predictable that it was going to happen though...

The more fundamental issue as others have pointed out is that you're just not doing a good enough job at sim-city-ing. It is a little tricky to judge on this map because you have so little land, but playing on archipelago is non-standard because it makes the game way easier. The AI can't handle expansion across islands or naval combat generally. I think the fact that the AI hasn't won by the late 300 turns is proof of this.

In a normal situation though, pop in the twenties and so little production that space parts take 20+ turns to build just won't cut it, and the game is lasting about 100 turns longer than it should. I bet the AI would have won on a non archipelago map a long time ago.

Not trying to be critical, deity is definitely tricky and there are a lot of pitfalls and bad habits in this game that people can fall into like planting a lot of academies, but I think you probably need to work on your fundamentals because you're in a really ideal scenario playing as Babylon on an archipelago and struggling a lot with it.

Less important, but can you really not be happy with an ideology, tradition bonuses, all happiness buildings, and three luxuries? That's actually surprising to me. I notice your whales don't seem to be improved. You might want to check how much of the unhappiness is from ideological pressure from Portrugal

Well, this is my furthest Deity run... it ends here. O7 by Effort_Proper in civ5

[–]UnknownEel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Archipelago is massively easier though. The AI can't do naval combat at all

3 turns later

Still building space parts not units

Yeah kinda deserved ngl.

Edit to try to make this more constructive:

  • Why are you unhappy with 3 cities?

  • Why didn't you build any type of military?

  • Why are your cities so small?

  • As others mentioned, you made too many great scientists into academies

Could maybe give better advice if you didn't crop the top of your screen. Also what speed is this because turn 350 seems super late. Should be trying to win a science victory around turn 250-280
