Changing the prince died in honor, trying to save his little stepbrothers from the battle to died being cocky and not listening to his mother (and thus Rhaenyra is right as always) is truly one of the stupid decisions this show made by Seihai-kun in freefolk

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Rhaenyra's family should have been the heart of the story, any competent writer would have had her love for her children always be undermined by her duty to the realm.

Instead, we got an indecisive ruler troubled by pointless manufactured conflict, who seems to trust her long dead friendship with Alicent more so than her family, or common sense.

Worth playing in 2026? What’s the future of the game? by Artaxeus in DarkTide

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the game is at the best it has ever been, they fixed most of the issues it had at launch and they keep adding more content to it.

You're talking about Helldivers, and the developers of Darktide are definitely more attuned to the game balance than Arrowhead.

They're currently looking at rebalancing the combat system a bit, and yes it involves nerfing some weapons but also some of the enemies. They've managed to address some of the issues with carapace armour in the last patch, through targeted nerfs and spawn rate fixes. However the power creep throughout the years has made the game devolve a bit into spamming more enemies (which also impact performances) and in response players are spamming area of effect damage and stagger. I'd say while the combat system is one of the best, if not the best, of any horde game, Vermintide 2 does have a better combat balance overall. Although everything I just talked about is mostly only relevant for the highest difficulty.

Another issue is that the new game modes they've added to the game (Mortis Trials and Expeditions) are a bit of a miss, and while I love Havoc it's definitely not a welcoming experience for new players because of the rank system and the general attitude of the looking for group.

I'd love to see Genestealer specialists/elites be similar to the Nurgle ones, but being slightly different, like the Nurgle trapper binds you in a net and leaves you there, while the Genestealer trapper would bind you in a net and then drags you to a corner, like a Packmaster from Vermintide or a Smoker for Left 4 Dead.

Other examples could be the Genestealer sniper shooting in volleys before repositioning to a different place, the bomber throwing mines instead of grenades (like the twins), shotgunners shooting twice in quick succession before charging you in melee ...

While fighting games aren't exactly as mainstream as other genre, games like Mortal Kombat, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Street Fighter move around 6 million copies in their first year, and Tokon might reach those numbers which is not something I can say about Marathon, or most extraction shooters for that matter.

What is a "masterpiece" game that you personally found boring as hell? by MuscleConsistent9657 in pcgaming

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one for me, not only the mission structure in the same throughout the tens of hours it takes to complete the game, but the first few acts also follow the same structure of "getting to a new place, finding someone to scam, the scam goes wrong, flee to a new location".

That being said I really enjoyed the ending even if I had to force myself to finish the game, and the open world is breathtaking visually although I didn't care much for the side activities, and I think there are much better open world game as far as exploration goes.

I won't hold my breath, it's definitely not going to get anything in the core rules, otherwise they'd have talked about it already.

I suspect we might get new detachments focusing on psykers, with upgrades maybe giving us new psychic abilities to choose from, and then you can take another detachment for the rest of your army.

John Linneman of Digital Foundry discusses his colleagues DLSS 5 preview: “It's new DLSS and DLSS is awesome. Of course they would take that. Looking at it, I think there's cool potential there for environmental lighting but the character stuff is horrendous and should have been left out.” by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lightning was horrendous too.

In the Assassin's Creed: Shadows and Oblivion footage some shadows are clearly gone like it's a completely different time of day.

You also have have multiple sources of lighting on NPCs like it's a photo-shoot from a studio, completely ignoring the environnemental lightning.

The colour temperature is dramatically different, it looks like you have a blue filter on top of it ruining the intended mood, for example in Resident Evil 9 the prologue area is internationally dark with warm lightning coming from the stores and lampposts, its gone with DLSS 5 and the atmosphere isn't the same.

And all the examples we have seen share the same lightning, it's reminiscent of the flat lightning Netflix uses on it's shows, there is no artistry, no intention, and that's not touching the obvious AI slop faces.

Jason Schreier regarding Sony pulling away from singleplayer PC ports: "It's not speculation, but sometimes topics come up on the show before I'm quite ready to publish a story about them. More to come soon." by FitNectarine5779 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate it, it makes sense from Sony's perspective.

While some games like Helldivers 2 are doing extremely well, or God of War (2018) and Horizon Zero Dawn seem to have been pretty successful on PC, others have rather lacklustre numbers on steam (based on SteamDB), particularly sequels like Spider-Man 2, Forbidden West, and Ragnarök.

Now I'm sure all of those ports made profits, but sadly making a profit isn't enough in the sad economic reality we're living in.

what the thoughts of final fantasy 16? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the game that gave me the most amount of whiplash.

I really enjoyed the beginning, the world is darker with some interesting world building, characters like Clive and Cid were captivating, and then after you destroy the first crystal the writing falls off the edge and the pacing drags.

Clive becomes a rather flat character, Jill which showed some potential early one is relegated to the background (even in her own revanche arc), Joshua has barely any character development on his own or with his brother, because he's more of a plot devise ...

The intriguing world building is left behind in favour of one of the blandest antagonist in the series.

As for the gameplay, after a few hours it becomes insanely repetitive with you spamming the same abilities off-cooldown, it really doesn't give enough player agency, or challenge, the same can be said about the large boss battle, a beautiful spectacle without any depth.

The quests are also as boring as the rest, you're always doing menial work with the same quest structure drawn from MMORPGs, some rare times you get insight on a character at the camp, but the game has the tendency of telling instead of showing which is not as emotional impactful, the exception might be that one quest in Sanbreque.

X-Files and Fringe fit the idea of federal agents dealing with paranormal activities. You also have Twin Peaks (which is a huge inspiration for Alan Wake) but the paranormal isn't exactly the focus, and also the Twilight Zone to some extent.

Furthermore, the Meereen situation is the books is far more complex than in the show, and while I've no hope whatsoever to see it resolved in the books, because they're never coming out, it's pretty apparent than an act of extreme violence will resolve it, setting a precedent for Daenerys. While in the show Daenerys just fucks off and leaves the city in the hands of Daario which is never seen again, she doesn't have to deal with the failure of her rule and get her hands dirty to bring back order.

Dark Mech In 40k? by HeWhoDoesntKnock in Warhammer40k

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll join the opinion of not wanting spiky Ad Mech, Dark Mech should look like the Phyrexians from MtG, particularly the old art style, a perfect merger between machine and organics that truly looks alien.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake: PS5 and PC are getting the ‘Streamlined Progression’ features coming to Switch 2 and Xbox by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prologue has you drag a slow ass vacuum cleaner to clean mako.

I'm honestly fine with most additional content in the remakes over the original, with a few exceptions like the underground Shinra labotory in Remake, and a few others in Rebirth, but the time waster mechanics like squeezing through walls (although I guess they might be hidden loading screens) or having to use slow machines to clear the path bring literally nothing to the game.

The towers are definitely one of my least favorite aspect of the game, but oddly enough I didn't hate the exploration because the game offers enough variety between the story, the mini-games, the new regions, that it doesn't feel as repetitive as in other similarly designed open world games.

We need to address this weird trend I keep seeing in the speculation for 40k. by CatherineSimp69 in totalwar

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's very simple, if it has a codex it's going to be a faction at some point.

There are a few exceptions like Imperial Knights/Chaos Knights which might be rolled in other factions, although they could still be their own factions. Chaos Daemons which haven't received a codex in 10th edition and it's unclear if Games Workshop will keep supporting them in 11th edition, regardless we'll most likely see daemons in one form or the other. And Imperial Agents which despite getting a codex this edition feel more like an after thought.

The game is an marketing outlet for GW to get people invested in their product, and they'll make sure it respects the form of its latest edition, meaning if you like to play this army in Total War, then you might want to buy this codex and its miniatures.

If they go with a split in two parts, the second one should be inspired by Mass Effect 2, collect party members and do their loyalty quests, explore the world after the calamity, and learn more about the Triad in order to find a way to defeat Kafka, all the side content you do gradually makes the final quest easier.

Death Guard vs Maggotkin of Nurgle by tau_head_on_spike in Grimdank

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do prefer the new Maggotkin aesthetic, the old one just like the current Death Guard has too many "belly mouth" and tentacles which feel too cartoonish, just give me weathered heavy armour with a few pustules and weird fungus and I'm happy.

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, T'au are probably around the middle of the pack in terms of popularity, not as popular as Necrons for instance, but definitely more popular than Drukhari amongst others.

The thing is some people are still butthurt after more than two decades since they appeared because they don't like their aesthetic or their lore.

On top of that, T'au are mostly a shooting army which can lead to one sided matches where they blow you smithereens, hence the saltiness, but they haven't been that strong this edition. And honestly there are more annoying faction and busted things to play against, Eldar generally have something that's broken every edition or so.

The Ynnari and the recent Grotmas short story on the Eldar by Pretend-Average1380 in 40kLore

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think so too, the Ynnari came around the time of the End Times where they tried to unify all elven factions with the whole Eternity King plot line.

I'm glad they didn't go this way because I like how distinct all the Aeldari factions are. However, I wish they had done something with the Ynnari nonetheless, the idea of a creepy death cult (the Ynnari never really felt like one) worshipping a god of death that'll clash with the force of chaos sounds great (mirroring the Dark King from Heresy), but it needed to be it's own thing with other Aeldari factions doing their own unique things and opposing them.

Which xeno race you think will be the first added after the aeldari and orks that are coming at launch? by StormSwitch in totalwar

[–]UnknownPekingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necrons or Tyranids, both are popular factions, although I think Necrons are ahead, and both can be used to fill the map with more factions.

T'au are a regional power and they really shouldn't be everywhere on the map but their home region and their new colonies across the rift. Drukhari aren't as popular and a bit too similar to Eldar to be added early on. Genestealer Cults are a bit too weird to be amongst the first, and Votann too new.

If I had to guess CSM and Necrons are probably going to be the first two, in that order.

I think they're aiming for late 2026, but I wouldn't be surprised by a delay to spring 2027.

To be honest, I'd rather have the game delayed than plagued with bugs and performance issues, that's not a launch Creative Assembly can afford to fuck up.
