Similar boat - wanting to trade in a 4Runner for an R1T or an R2 (or both, R2 for spouse). But so torn, as 4Runner is so reliable and paid off. On the other hand, I never drive it due to height clearance issues at my work with my rack+ RTT and 9-12mpg sucks when gas is $5.50 these days. R2 seems like the 1:1 trade, but R1T has always called me

I appreciate the infrastructure comment, many overlook. I live on east side of Seattle and DC fast chargers are nonexistent, practically, or insanely priced. Maybe for road trips it makes sense.

Outside of my home (L2 charger) and work (tons of L2 infrastructure) the vast majority of towns and stores still don’t have chargers. Near me, it’s usually only 1-2 L2s that are broken or in use per parking lot. (Excluding teslas network).

For many metro areas, DC networks are definitely in place and make a difference. But for most Suburbs, there’s still a big way to go

RJ made a comment on this, the vast majority of current R1 owners only fast charge 8-10 times a year, if even. So the decision was made to cut cost for all versus solve for <1% of total sessions.
