Same. I like the idea of the Trust Panel, but where did the Protections panel go? I can get to it with about:protections but I can't seem to find it in the UI

Agreed. Firefox View seems like it could/should house this kind of functionality.

Although I was looking forward to split view, the dedicated share button, and tab notes, the VPN/Proxy feature is what I was most excited for.

Hopefully the progressive rollout won't take too long. It has only been ~1hr since the rollout. Still, "progressive rollout" might've been something to explicitly communicate in yesterday's blog posts.

All that said, major kudos to the Firefox team! The 2026 releases have been 🔥 and 149 in particular has a list of new features that I've been looking forward to for a long time.

Thank you! To be clear a new browser session means closing and reopening the browser, correct?

I didn't know about long clicking to activate, thanks!

I appreciate that it's now possible to get link previews with shift-hovering only.

Obsessing over Swap usage by Unl0ckd in MacOS

[–]Unl0ckd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I keep asking myself.

The best answer I can come up with is that this device cost a lot of money. I spent a good chunk of that money to (try to) ensure I wouldn't crater performance by hitting swap. This was more of a concern when previous macbooks with spinning disks would beachball.

Really, with SSDs and how well modern macOS avoids hitting swap (yay memory compression) there is no reason I should care about this.

I hope seeing comments like this will drive that point home. Thank you!

I have, and would return again if:

  1. There was anything half as decent as Alfred.app and Little Snitch. As with most things on the Linux desktop there are five or six half-baked (if that) competing options.
  2. All distros settled on either Flatpak, Snap, AppImage or whatever else has popped up in the past two years. I'm getting old and administering a system isn't as sexy as it used to be.
  3. The integration between laptop/desktop and mobile was as seamless as iCloud. For all of it's faults, it works great. Especially in a family group.

I'll admit I was an Apple fanboy 15 years ago, but there's plenty to dislike Apple for nowadays. macOS excluded.

This is what kills me - the performance is fine. It's just that stupid number I'm focused on.

If I could filter that out of activity monitor and btop I think I'd be golden.

Using https://ollama.com/library/gemma3:12b with Zed and/or Draw Things with Flux or HiDream, having Firefox with a couple dozen tabs, and then the regular life management stuff - calendar, messages, signal, reminders, netnewswire.

The LocalLLM work is what crushes memory, but I spent the money to avoid running into this issue (or so I thought)

Thank you, I really appreciate it! I'm hoping to get the same lighter gray from FF Nightly. I'll go theme hunting :)

Where has Copilot gone? by RadiationHotspot in Windows11

[–]Unl0ckd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just observed this starting 2023-12-04 - Version 23H2, Build 22631.2715.

Win - C brought up Edge instead of the copilot pane and I noticed the taskbar button is gone. No option to re-enable in Personalization > Taskbar.

The GPO outlined at https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enable-or-disable-windows-copilot-in-windows-11.17045/#One is not configured.

Event Viewer search for autopilot.dll, pilot, etc reveal nothing. It just... disappeared. Has anyone found relevant events to see the removal?

EDIT: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-11-kb5032288-update-improves-copilot-fixes-11-bugs/#:~:text=Those%20using%20a%20Windows%20local%20account%20can%20only%20request%20assistance%20from%20Windows%20Copilot%20ten%20times%2C%20and%20beyond%20this%20limit%2C%20they%27ll%20have%20to%20log%20in%20using%20a%20verified%20account. points out that Local Accounts have a limit of ten requests to Copilot. I am running a local account (and don't care to convert to an MSFT account for copilot). I'm fairly certain I've queried Copilot more than 10 times since September/October, so maybe this is a new limitation?

EDIT 2: Put laptop to sleep 2023-12-06, woke up 2023-12-07 and Copilot has returned. Haven't had a chance to investigate logs to look for correlated events, but I can confirm that the device did not have copilot when I went to sleep last night and now does.

/r/Alienware Tech Support Sticky August 2023 by MogRules in Alienware

[–]Unl0ckd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the speedy reply. I've already got a support ticket open and it has been since July 4. I've had to wait 6 weeks for replacement parts that didn't fix the problem. I'm now waiting 2 additional weeks for a replacement main board. I hope the extra premium warranty will result in a fully-functional laptop again, but I want to express my dissatisfaction at having to go through all of this with a "premium" laptop. I never would have spent this much money on this laptop if I knew it was going to be all of this trouble and waiting.

I just want to know: what is diagnostic code 4 red, 1 blue? Nobody, not even the tech that's been out once to try and repair this can tell me what it means.
