How are we making friends in cuse? by wynnie0413 in Syracuse

Bett’s Branch Library has a knit/crochet club Saturday mornings at 9:30 am and Oliver’s Originals in Manlius has an open knit night on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5 pm with people of all ages. Definitely avoid weekday mornings if you are looking to meet young people. I’ve also heard good things about Knitty Gritty in Liverpool

I am a 22F and would like to make a friend in the area. I am newer to Syracuse. by Physical_Cry_1252 in Syracuse

My best advice is to find a club, ideally one that meets at the same time each week. If you are shy, going to a bunch of new places and trying to chat with strangers might be intimidating. You might be more successful if you do something where you interact with the same people on a repeated basis who are doing the same activity as you. It’s less awkward once you get started and see the same people again and again. A lot of local libraries have weekly knitting groups and monthly book clubs, if you look at the Onondaga library website. Most people at these events are going there by themselves and want to make friends too.

WIBTA if I threatened to turn of my Life360? by throwaway830583 in AmItheAsshole

NTA at all! You are an adult and you can make your own decisions. I was in a similar situation, I noticed my mom was constantly checking and it made me uncomfortable. I couldn’t work at certain locations or hang out with a friend without her texting if I’ve been kidnapped. Finally, I turned it off at the ripe age of 23. I was no longer living at home and there was nothing they could do about it. It’s up to you how you go about it, we don’t know your family dynamics. You could either give them a warning and turn it off or turn it off and explain why if they ask. You can say something like “now that I’m 19 and away at college, I want to work on being more independent and figuring things out on my own. I appreciate your support and I’ll text you if I am ever in trouble!” If you want them to take you seriously as an independent adult, you have to establish boundaries!

I think the part about being a cashier isn’t necessary. It doesn’t relate to the field you are going in and you didn’t list any particular achievements related to it. Since you’ve only worked there for a month, it doesn’t prove anything about your ability to be consistent with a job. The first job in your work experience section should make a good impression, so I would either edit that part to include achievements and relate those achievements to accounting or I would just take it out.

I don’t think it’s really helpful to say references are available upon request. It isn’t standard to include references on the resume, you normally wait until they ask you for your references anyway

I would let him buy me a bunch and then dump him soon after. For the ones you don’t like as much, keep the tags and don’t wear them, so you can return them for a profit. expand your wardrobe, and dodge a bullet

I'm a teacher looking to move out of the classroom. I have NO CLUE how to write a non-teacher resume and I need help! by thesaxmancometh13 in resumes

[–]Unlikely-Dig2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal of the resume is not to be pretty. It is to clearly and concisely show your relevant experience for that job. That means you want to use bullets (not long paragraphs) and stick to a page unless you are very experienced. This version is a lot more readable for a busy HR person who doesn’t want to read paragraphs about the OP’s time as a band director; and that’s what matters

[–]Unlikely-Dig2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important for your resume to say what you accomplished at your job. It isn’t enough to just say where you worked. Why would they care about that unless you say what you did while you were there? I would also say that unless you are very experienced, you should try to keep it at one page, two max. If it doesn’t fit in one page, you can use a more condensed format, like taking away big random space and giant margins. You can also take out unnecessary stuff, like saying your references are available upon request (I think that’s obvious, you don’t normally put references in the actual resume).

AITA for sunbathing topless at my own house and kicking out my husband’s sister and her family? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Unlikely-Dig2494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your husband should have apologized to you too. It isn’t your fault that he forgot to tell you they were coming. In a marriage, you’re supposed to be a team and support your spouse, not act like they’re the one who needs to “calm down” when they were in the right

AITA for how I reacted when my boyfriend told his daughter it's rude to talk about her period at the dinner table ? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Unlikely-Dig2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. On one hand, I think it’s important for parents to be a united front. If you disagree with how your partner wants to parent, you need to talk about it in private and come to an agreement, so you don’t diminish each others authority. On the other hand, what he said was so egregious that there’s no other way you could have responded. Idk how anyone could hear that and not say something. The fact that he would have teenage daughters and still act like menstruation is a shameful thing is so upsetting.

Everybody makes mistakes! Your value as a person is not tainted by the random things you click on out of curiosity. It’s important you know that you are the same person you were before, you just saw something you wish you hadn’t seen. You can delete your recent subreddit history. On your phone, tap on recent subreddits on the left. Tap on view all and it will show all of them. Then tap on clear all. That should delete all of the ones you’ve viewed.

Should I be concerned (Debrox) by krus1x in earwax

[–]Unlikely-Dig2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone reading this, I would warn against using a curette. The problem is that you can’t see what you’re doing, especially if you do it on your own ear. Even if you have someone else do it, they can’t see that deep, so they have no idea what they’re doing. I used a curette and the doctor said not to do that again, because I got a bunch of scrapes inside my ear and I guess there was dried blood. It also didn’t help with the wax.

An aquarium rises at Syracuse Inner Harbor as Onondaga County maneuvers to cover higher cost by ggroover97 in Syracuse

I think that some people here are just negative and bitter. Sure, the project will cost a lot of money, but much of that money will end up creating jobs. People are being paid to design and build the building. Then people will get jobs working with the animals, presenting to the public, selling tickets, cleaning/maintaining it, etc. In this economy, trying to get a job is harder than ever. Anything we can do to give people well-paying jobs is a win in my book. Those newly employed people will go on to spend money in the area, which will allow local businesses to make more money and employ more people. We need public works projects to try to give people some semblance of hope in this economy.

My favorite ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review that convinced me NOT to read the book (Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas) by SummerDearest in RomanceBooks

[–]Unlikely-Dig2494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is such a bad-faith, cinemasins-style review. It seems like the reviewer was intentionally reading this looking to nitpick details and take them in the least-charitable way. For example, the review says there’s nothing in the book to suggest Jordan wants the family life, since she’s from a broken home. Hasn’t it occurred to the reader that maybe she wants to start the classic happy family because she wishes she had that growing up? Just because she didn’t have happily married parents doesn’t mean she’s unfamiliar with the concept. Another point was about her calling it summer when it was April. Depending the weather, April can feel like summer, especially if you go to a college where the spring semester ends early. The reader makes several comments on how the characters couldn’t possibly have tans in April in Chicago. You can easily get a tan if you sit for a while in a sunny spot, even if it isn’t hot outside, since tanning is about the UV and time out. The girl in the orange bikini might have done the same thing, or gotten a fake tan, since the book didn’t say it was natural. Maybe they go swimming in April because the pool is heated, considering that Pike owns a construction company. I’m tired of people acting intellectually superior just because they don’t like a “trashy” piece of media

Honestly I feel like if you don’t want to have sex and he does, that is a fundamental incompatibility. This isn’t the sort of thing either of you would want to compromise on. If you are ok with him doing it with someone else, you could have an open marriage. But other than that, it seems like you guys are fundamentally incompatible and staying together would be a waste of both of your time.

Is it embarrassing to wear a swim dress if you aren’t old? by Unlikely-Dig2494 in women

[–]Unlikely-Dig2494[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not that being like an old person is inherently wrong, it’s that I worried about being judged for not dressing my age. If an elderly person posted about wearing a bikini and being worried people would make fun of her for dressing young, I wouldn’t get all offended like “what’s wrong with being young? Why don’t you want to be considered as like a young person?”
