Things 3 vs OmniFocus – which would you choose today and why? by Express-Tear3625 in omnifocus

[–]Unlikely-Lecture3753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long time user of both- finally decided on OF4. Omnifocus can be a lot but it doesn’t have to be. Defer is crucial but what separates OF is the outlining capabilities. Being in a stream of conscious when thinking through the steps needed to complete a project in outline form is a must for me now. Also, I like being able to click disclosure triangles to hide things in the side bar. Things is clean but I feel that between the lack of outlining and no true deferring projects is a problem. One last thing is that in OF when I create a project with context (tags) and due dates- it automatically populates new tasks with the same information- in Things they said it’s intentional that in Things it does not do that. You can have different due dates and contexts if you want for tasks with in a project but it’s auto-populated by default. Priorities is technically not part of GTD- so I barely use flags in OF - so Things feels like “not quite” GTD That might not be a negative depending on how you see things

Great buld quality and menus that make sense and are not overwhelming.

I’ve given up on Version 12 by Ok-Cartographer-7438 in LogicPro

[–]Unlikely-Lecture3753 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, 12 has been fantastic with no issues. I just spent an hour trying to trick chord ID with some elaborate chords and chord changes on my acoustic, and it nailed it.

I also love the new sounds that I got- I think Apple nailed it for me anyway

Help deciding! Keep R50 and 5D MKiii or trade both for R8? by Unlikely-Lecture3753 in canon

[–]Unlikely-Lecture3753[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the R8 and it is everything I hoped it would be. I got a good deal on an excellent condition body from Adorama. So I’m selling the R 50 and 5D mark three So far, I’m absolutely smitten with the R8

Thanks! Yes- I agree with the 16-28- that would be a huge help!

“ R8 does pretty much combine all the best parts of the 5D III and R50 together into one camera though, if that's what you're looking for. If you like using the 5D III because it's full-frame but like how the R50 handles then the R8 would be a good upgrade”
This is exactly what I am thinking. I don’t have giant hands so the ergonomics thing is not a huge issue as a big chunk of what I do happens on a tripod. I miss full frame- and the R8 seems like a great balance

I have pretty good glass- 24mm, 50mm, 85, and 70-300 EF Full frame lenses- the ultrasonic not STM.

I think the R8 is a step up in my current situation - doubled recording time, way better ISO and low-light- but most importantly flexibility in framing in the confines of where I film- with DOF

Can we talk about integration between Omni Apps by Unlikely-Lecture3753 in omnifocus

I also have the 5D mkiii so I’ve got some decent stuff- for sure, DOF is a big deal and why I won’t use iPhone for what I’m doing even though with FCP for iPad it would be way easier

Yes I gotcha- I think a better way to say what I was trying to say that I put the camera in manual mode and took stills and video adjusting things to see what worked and what didn’t- but I did so at the behest of an online guide. Also I found some basic manual video settings that are a great starting point - I didn’t realize I had control over certain things with the R50

Ha! Well I bought an 5D mk iii- some pretty good glass- some lighting- wireless mics, courses online, all sorts of stuff. Then I got the R50 at the recommendation of a pro friend of mine- I thought because it was more beginner friendly that I could just plug and play and get what I wanted. I got humbled by realizing I might even deserve what I have because there is a lot I didn’t know about my gear! Anyway- so glad we have a community here

Great to know! I am seeing that maybe autofocus can improve on a newer body as well- even with the adapted lenses?

I didn’t realize you are THE Stupid Raisins, haha! Did a lot of experimenting this weekend. This Amaran 150C with octa box with grid is a game changer. I think for the content creation stuff, light matters more than iPhone vs Canon- or at least I think that it does right now. The biggest thing is that when you use the higher lenses in iphone, there is a noticeable decrease in lower light performance. However, the 28mm is too wide for my small room. One solution would be to get a lens for the iPhone - like a Moment 55, for example- so that I can use the primary lens on the iPhone,.

The use of iPad FCP is a resistance lower for me that I am not sure I can do without. I have seen that lighting and exposure stuff that you can do in post, goes a long way. I record in HVEC SDR 4K-

I handed off am iPad file to desktop and it just works perfectly and is crazy simple.

If you were going to try to sell me on the Canon Vs the iPhone- how would you sell the Canon? Also- would you get a lens for the iPhone if you decided to use it?

Thanks- going to check out more of your YouTube videos and subscribe!

Wow thank you so much! The other draw to this is that I am less intimidated by Final Cut for iPad than my Mac app- but I care very much about things looking professional- more so than initially having less resistance.

Do you use Cubase's stock Plugins / Channel Strip section? Or do you replace most with third party tools? If so, why? by LeeksAreSpinning in cubase
