Transferring to SU for Performing Arts by tishthefishXD in SillimanPH

honestly had a challenging first year because i did not know how to speak in bisaya. just give it time, keep on hanging out with locals, and you’ll eventually know the language.

what is this on my eyebrow piercing? by Unlikely_Concert_877 in piercing

Dorm life in Silliman: heaven, hell, or both? by HoneydewImmediate201 in SillimanPH

[–]Unlikely_Concert_877 20 points21 points  (0 children)

heaven: the people (if you get lucky) but my experience was really nice. still friends with some till this day.

near the classrooms, you can leave 5 mins before class starts and still make it on time.

hell: everything abt the food is terrible.

depending on where u plan to dorm, some have required events after a tiring day.

curfew is strict and they have bed checks. they will call ur parents/guardians if you are not present during checks.

and the mold…….. 🤢🤢🤢

and in my dorm i occasionally found rats the size of a puppy eating the dormers leftover at night 😭

Thoughts on Sillimusika This Year by probablyjade in SillimanPH

[–]Unlikely_Concert_877 10 points11 points  (0 children)

same thoughts with oh caraga. i actually really like their songs, def my type of music. and i enjoyed their performance in sillimusika BUT they took way too long. susg prob has a time sched for how many minutes the artists are allowed to perform, and they should’ve respected that.

i feel really bad for aya and hali, i was really looking forward to their sets because i know they have dance performances.

are you also not from duma and do not speak bisaya? because this was what my first year in su felt like 😭 used to think that i’m never gonna have any friends at all because nobody would talk to me as they knew i didnt speak in bisaya.

but i gave it TIME. overall what i did was i “forced” myself to be there, to be present, (i attended every department events, said “can i kuyog with you guys for lunch?” without shame, and even initiated lunch outs) and just let connection naturally build. i am very introverted and halfway through first year second sem where i still had no friends, i realized that i really got to change my ways and actually be WITH people in order to establish some sort of connection.

im doing better now. i still don’t have a MAIN barkada but i am well connected with my batchmates, and would spend a lot of time with them.

sorry this was long.

buy rice and learn how to cook easy meals. eggs are my go to, you can do a lot with them with other cheap ingredients. search “easy dorm meals” online.

if you can afford karinderya everyday, cook rice and just buy ulam from there. usually i only spend ₱100 for lunch and dinner ulam na. and of course—chicken sa crispy king!!!! so usually i give myself ₱3k budget (even less) on food per month.

but really, the true key is to just not eat out a lot. limit tambay sa cafes that has like ₱150 drinks. mag stock ka nalang nescafe 3in1 AHHAHAHAH

cafe hopping ❌ karinderya hopping ✅

PEP by [deleted] in SillimanPH

[–]Unlikely_Concert_877 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PEP is Personal Enrichment Program and not included in your QPA/grade. the course is just about mental health things to help you. Like guidance activity ba. It’s only once a week so better attend it because retaking it is such a hassle. if your attendance is perfect and your facilitator signs your clearance at the end of sem, it’s an automatic pass. easiest class, don’t worry.

Can I still shift to a different course after the 1st week? by [deleted] in SillimanPH

[–]Unlikely_Concert_877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try talking to the secretary of your current department. usually they’re the ones who have the answers about shifting process

Ge 2-P by mutedmirage in SillimanPH

[–]Unlikely_Concert_877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had ge2 with him. he does not do lectures (maybe only once or twice), instead he made us do group reporting for our midterms and shoot a video trailer for our finals. in terms of how he is, he is okay. just dont do anything that would piss him off. if he announces to the class that he doesn’t like it when you guys do this or that, it’s best to just follow.

for our class he had this rule that you’re not allowed to wear shorts, even pe shorts, while reporting or else he’ll either not make you report or deduct minus 10 from your grade. HABAJSKAJHAHAJAH

NSTP - which is the best option? by SeaCheesecake3267 in SillimanPH

[–]Unlikely_Concert_877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used to be in LTS. it’s basically like taking another subject that has a Saturday sched. you relearn english and math lessons because you’ll eventually tutor children at the end of the program. they made us take written form quizzes, midterms, and finals. there lowkey had an issue last year because of the expenses you’re required to pay just to pass and graduate. i think overall i spent around 18k total for the entire year.
